    D&D 4E WotC and 4E Communication Feedback

I hope not! :) Probably on the boards a while back, or on one of my Story Hour threads. Hahahahaha, he did, but the joke's on him. It's empty except for last month's bus pass, a business card from a bad Indian restaraunt and Jespo Crim's stat block.

Who are these guys: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, James Wyatt

Right. For that instance, you would want to go with a level for level conversion, because in an Adventure Path, the NPCs would need to balance against the PC party, so 1st level party meets 4th level NPC would still translate as 1st level party meets 4th level PC.

Who are these guys: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, James Wyatt

Dude, what fun would a D&D rollout be if I wasn't posting on Eric Noah's Fourth Edition website? :) I don't know about how much calculation it does, but I did hear that it's being built to include the possibility of house rules. Is it? Unless your 3e and 4e characters will be interacting...

    D&D 4E WotC and 4E Communication Feedback

Thanks Mark! It's a self-portrait. :) Of myself making a face right after Wulf Ratbane kicked me in the manly danglers.

Who are these guys: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, James Wyatt

I sense a bumper sticker in our near future. James Wyatt or Heinsoo for VP?

Who are these guys: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, James Wyatt

Rob Hiensoo discussed this in a seminar, and pointed out that the 2e to 3e character conversion document was pretty dissapointing. They tried to give the impression that a scientific "replace x with y" conversion was possible, when in fact it never was. He went on to say that character...

    D&D 4E WotC and 4E Communication Feedback

Gratified to hear you say this. :) Thanks for doing the on-the-spot video podcasts, they've been really informative and interesting. Well done.

D&D 4E Was Monte's decision to retire influenced by 4E?

Writing fiction can be a full-time job, and perhaps Monte decided it should be. If I wanted to write novels and had an opportunity to no longer run my start-up publishing company in order to focus on my writing, I would do the same. Therefore, when he says he doesn't have an opinion, maybe the...

Who are these guys: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, James Wyatt

Pretty much my sentiment as well. From what I took away from GenCon, Mearls is the lead developer. The lead designer is going to bear a lot of responsibility for herding the cats and keeping the project "on vision." You want your experienced designers in that role, and Andy Collins seems...

D&D Game Table not Mac-Compatible at launch

I just read on the wizards boards that they decided to go with Direct-X because they "already had in house a direct-X based 3D game engine, and there was no point reinventing something." So yeah, we're getting that the pursuit of excellence James Wyatt was trumpeting as his design goal for 4e...

D&D 4E Will 4E be crunchy or smooth?

This was confirmed by a couple of the 4e designers at GenCon. Monsters won't be expected to be equivalent to player characters. The impression I'm getting is that there will be more choices for PCs (and therefore more glee for power gamers), but fewer choices for DMs (and therefore less...

One Level Scale to Rule Them All?

Great insight, and I think you just hit the bull'seye.

    Design optimism, marketing pessimism

That's the impression I'm getting as well. It seems like D&D's new edition rollout is viewed as the behemoth that can drag along other initiatives (gleemax and dndinsider.com), and the attempt to link them is confusing the 4e message a bit. But the concepts behind the digital initiative are...

D&D Game Table not Mac-Compatible at launch

This is very dissapointing, particularly considering that according to Bill Slavicsek at the D&D Q&A this weekend, the project does have quite a bit of budget and support from the top-down. GenCon has turned me into a 4e cheerleader, and of course, I'll be playing the game around a physical...

    D&D 4E I am Happy They Finally Announced 4E

From what we're hearing so far, 4e seems more focused on creating fluid, dynamic tactical combat and far less concerned with the classic old-school exploration themes. Or rather, it's most likely about wondrous exploration (the "ohmygod that's cool" moments) rather than exploration as a...

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

I'm all over 4e. Based on what I learned about it at GenCon I think it's going to be fantastic. 1) The guys at WotC think about D&D all day at work. 2) Then they go home and play thier off-work campaigns. 3) In person, they all come off as smart guys who love D&D. 4) 4e will to remove...

    D&D 4E 4e OGL and SRD?

Scott Rouse confirmed that 4e will still have an SRD at the Ennies, and Bill Slavacek confirmed this as well at the D&D Q&A forum. We don't have specifics yet (as they don't exist yet), but D&D will remain open-source enough for 3rd party publishing to continue, and one of the core aspects...

    Giving up on the Quest

Yes, I ran my Liberation of Tenh game this way-- the characters had just reached 9th level, and we were looking for a change of pace. I took over DMing chores, and my preferred DM style is player-driven plotting. Even a player-centric game is going to need concrete goals-- difficult...
