    will 4.0 succeed?

... THWEET! Flag down, hyperbole! Seriously, has anyone really claimed that rules lawyering and munchkins will be a thing of the past with 4e? There are plenty of decent reasons to tilt at 4e without making stuff up, come on. ;)

    will 4.0 succeed?

Well, I keep hearing about how 1e was the best edition BECAUSE it required lots of house rules.

    Blasphemy redesign -help wanted

Well, see, a dragon's breath weapon has several potential defenses: Reflex roll and Evasion (or ring of evasion!), protection against energy, etc. Anti-magic cone is horrifying, yeah. But there aren't a lot of effects that seriously shut a BUNCH of folks down and have no defenses, other than...

    Blasphemy redesign -help wanted

! Ah. The DM messed up, then. ;) Or I misunderstood him... either way, that's a little less onerous. Though it STILL means you can potentially shut down the casters with a few lucky rolls and a single spell.

    Blasphemy redesign -help wanted

The problem I have is that '2d6 str damage' can basically one-shot a slew of characters. I mean, if it hits your casters and you roll a bit lucky? You've taken them out of the fight. Dazed doesn't bother me much at all, but an average of -7 Str per cast that's absolutely unstoppable? Ugh.

    Blasphemy redesign -help wanted

What's annoying about Blasphemy is when it gets cast twice at your party and you realize 'restoration' spells take _three frigging rounds_ to cast. Two casts and my paladin was down to Str: 2. The paladin with Mettle and blisteringly high saves, none of which mattered. And it's not like our...

    Is anyone sticking with 3.5?

I won't flame, though I giggled a bit at 'Much to WotC's dismay'

    Detect Magic is Dead

Yep, that's me. I have no problem with complexity when I think it makes for an interesting game. But Identify taking 8 hours and 100 gp PER item? That just sounds like a random HA HA screw you rule. Thing is, as a DM? It's EXCITING if players grab a magic sword off an orc and then go running...

    House Rules

Repeat of 'need to know the system,' with the exception of diagonals: definitely using 1-2-1-2 (and will abandon the system if for some strange reason that breaks the system). Other than that axiomatic taste issue... we'll see! Things I'm excited about possibly houseruling is reducing...

    Is anyone sticking with 3.5?

While I'm very likely to move to 4e, one thing that might slow my adoption is: 1) I want PDFs. If PDFs will go on sale at some delay after the physical books, I'm waiting. 2) I want flexibility and range of material. Given PHB2/DMG2 won't be out until a year from now (at least last mention of...

    will 4.0 succeed?

I think 4e will appeal to many of the 1e/2e players who had given 3e a chance and ended up not liking it; getting them to give WotC another shot might be difficult in some cases. The shape of 4e seems possibly more useful/interesting to those who like the older editions than 3e was, honestly...

    Cheating?

I find the whole 'DMs can't cheat' thing pretty ... strange. Sure, they can. If the DM implies that he follows the rules, not following the rules is cheating. If the DM openly says 'look, from time to time I'm going to adjust die rolls to maximize fun for the group' then adjusting die rolls...

    Detect Magic is Dead

It'd be nice to skip the whole 100 gp surcharge on most items in the campaign. Though we were a lot happier when we finally noticed that potions in 3.5e can be identified with a simple Spellcraft check. (doh)

    will 4.0 succeed?

People have called doom on the head of D&D many times before. There are no indications that this time it's any more real than any other time. The only thing that would kill D&D is if Hasbro just up and decided to stop printing it and refused to sell it at a reasonable price. And even then, the...

    Yet Another Gish Fix

I'm really enjoying gestalt game, though it's pretty much shorted out the brains of the new players. I'm a paladin/fighter&monte cook bard, we have a fighter/dwarven defender&cleric, druid&wizard, cleric&rogue, sorcerer&fighter, and barbarian&fighter. REALLY fun and don't have the feeling of...

    Cheating?

As a DM, I sometimes give myself the same leeway I give players (IE: 'crap, I forgot about something two rounds back that is critically important, and because of that this encounter is getting stupid, and no way my powerful character would have forgotten, so I'm retconning it') Generally, if I...

    Is anyone sticking with 3.5?

I'll be 'sticking with' 3.5e as long as it entertains me and people are running/playing it. I may or may not play 4e (though odds are good that I will), but I'll have to wait and see how I like it. If I DO like it, I will quite happily spend several hundred over the next few years buying stuff...

E6, item creation, and balance issue

You can't lower the caster level below what would be required to actually cast the spell, though; an item of Flight is going to likely require Caster Level 5, because that's needed to cast Fly (which is a 3rd level spell). I don't have Eberron, so I have no idea how an artificer functions, but...

    pawsplay's dealbreaker list

The Gray Mouser is described almost precisely as a rogue (with maybe a dip into fighter or ranger) who has maybe a level or two of wizard; he trained to be a wizard but left early on to pursue his life of crime. I mean, if you needed 'literary examples of multiclassing,' that's almost a perfect...
