    D&D 5E (2014) Adv. League: What's in it for a GM?

Why play in AL? Because you like to play. Why DM in AL? Because you like to DM. Whether you play or DM, there are significant differences between a home or OP setting..... Some people don't like playing in OP, some don't like DMing in OP. I would prefer a home game, but that isn't an...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

Perhaps they think it will make for a stronger product long term, or even better sales long term. WotC releases a book a month, I will pick and choose what I buy, if they release one every 4-6 months, I am much more likely to buy all of them. It also makes it easier for each book to be...

D&D 5E (2014) Dex to AC when unconscious?

Thats 100% on you. The rules are pretty clear: The Players say what they want to do, the DM determines what happens, and will ask for a roll *if* the DM feels the outcome is uncertain. There is nothing in the rules preventing you from allowing a PC or creature from just slitting the throat of...

D&D 5E (2014) Dex to AC when unconscious?

Then please feel free to change it. For others, the added simplicity is a fair exchange for the lack of 'reality', if you don't agree with that design decision, change it. I don't see it as 'throwing away the baby', I think it is good designed based on keeping their eye on streamlining the...

[UPDATED] Issues With Official D&D 5E Spell Cards?

I would boycott them. I can understand a bad CS encounter, but they are not doing anything to rectify that situation. I would try getting a few different email addresses, and CC them with your next Customer service email. Mention that they incorrectly filled your order with the wrong product...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

But those are pretty much hand in hand. The only way to have easily crafted items, is if they are also readily available, and thus easily purchasable. the only way to have reliable consistent pricing, is to have enough of each of item available to create such a consistent economy. You simply...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

Thats annoying.... I spent about 4 paragraphs trying to say that... Well done.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are DMs getting lazy?

For me it isn't a matter of time, it is a matter of what I spend my time on. I am better at editiing than creating, I am better at merging than creating. My best work comes from looking at 15 adventures, finding the 6-8 that work best for me, editing their content to meet my story goals...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

The premise of 5E is that Magic items are special and rare. Yes you can buy some, the PHB says you will not "normally" come across magic items to purchase. Same with selling, you need to find someone that is willing to pay what its worth. If magic items are rare, then making them must be...

D&D 5E (2014) Can someone please explain to me why there are still no PDFs for 5e core books?

Much of what is legal or not legal regarding IP and copyright is the result of case law...particularly when dealing with Fair Use. Technically, by some readings of the law, it would have been illegal to make a back up copy of your record, or to make an .mp3 copy, or whatever. the Courts...

    D&D 5E (2014) Advantage / Disadvantage in 5e

Its never going to happen, its just for comparison's sake. People are used to +X to hit, and most other bonuses take that form. So if you want to know how Advantage compares to Bless, or Archery.... this is how you make the comparison.

    D&D 5E (2014) Advantage / Disadvantage in 5e

Which is meaningless, since making the comparison after the first die is cast is nonsensical....

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

And IIRC, that *wasn't* a magic shop... it was a con job. Reading the rest of the stories, there were no magic shops... magic items were carefully guarded and plot items, not sold down the street.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

Neither of those equate to the 'Olde Magic Shoppe' concept. The Little Shop tends to be a one-off encounter where its very existence is a large part of the plot. Most of the Bazaars are similarly unexpected, and in most shows where it is a 'normal' occurence are of the sillier or child variety.

    D&D 5E (2014) Advantage / Disadvantage in 5e

The issue is how 'valuable' is getting advantage. So if you needed a 16 to hit, would you rather have advantage on the roll, or a +4 on the roll? As it turns out, you are better off with the +4. (Advantage would be the equivalent of a +3.75 on the roll) The benefit from advantage is never...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure Rolls & "a typical campaign"

XP is also something that is 'behind the scenes' and really only the purview of the DM. While giving detailed crafting and costs turns the DMG into a Sears catalog for players. I will admit, the magic item creation 'rules' are junk. But I think the game is better because of it. I realize...

D&D 5E (2014) Is this guy legally publishing 5e stuff?

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure Rolls & "a typical campaign"

I view it differently. I have seen various people offer numerous solutions to you, and you just 'handwave' them away as things you don't want to do. You don't want to buy expensive items You don't want to give to the poor You don't want to buy a keep You don't want to garner favor by offering...
