D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Could always make it so that you are throwing globs or bolts of lightning. That's kind of neat.

Why not? Legitimately. Ball Bearings are cheap, light, easy to store. And artificer could easily get a bag of holding and buy 100 sets of them. That isn't really going to break anything. And if they use their action to make them, then their action to deploy them it isn't exactly efficient...

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

Because you are asking the wrong question. If I tell you I am writing a book, and your response is "No, you are not writing a book. You are writing a sentence, it only becomes a book after you string together sentences into paragraphs which fill pages until you make chapters which are bound...

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

I am literally right now writing a story, one scene at a time, with people voting on what they want to happen next. By your definition it isn't a story until... I post the next scene? But before that point, there is nothing happening. It is like saying that the book doesn't continue until you...

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

^^ This "The characters are just going through an area and exploring it, finding the unexpected" is still a story. Whether or not there is an overarching conflict that connects everything doesn't make it not a story.

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

An odd proposition when player's "turning left" and doing something I did not account for often has me abandoning the notes I had prepared before hand

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

Actually, people HAVE stated it is impossible to meaningfully challenge PCs in 5e. Multiple people. You may not agree with them, but it is a constant refrain from that side of the discussion.

Oh, I completely agree with you that they are not the closest analogues. It is just deeply frustrating to me to basically see Micah describing a genre of story-telling, a popular and beloved genre of story-telling, then declaring it not a form of story-telling.

Considering some of them are still ongoing, you are basically saying that Tolkien put together his story after the fact too. Which most people wouldn't consider to be how Tolkien wrote, or that Tolkien wasn't writing a story. The same with literally any author.

That I can agree with. I probably would raise their wisdom? Actually, if I was the Lord Ruler of All of DnD, I would turn Wisdom into Awareness, and move the personality parts of it to Charisma. That way beasts could have much higher perception and intuition stats without the oddness that...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Focusing in on this, I am actually a bit glad that they are not using a Throw Boulder attack. One issue I've seen come up rather repeatedly, usually with Giants, is "where are they getting the boulder from" leading to a few DMs (not many, but a few) just not using the attack, because there were...

I am not getting hung up on the dog. I have also talked about the Bugbear and the Warhorse. But people keep going back to keen senses and the Dog.

I would argue Brute is no longer an essential part of the Bugbear. Abduct is.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Two, no three reasons. 1) This is a discussion forum. People discuss. You can't expect to write fifty or so posts on a subject, then say "but it is only my opinion so you are not allowed to say anything about it". That isn't how these things work. 2) You are not just expressing your...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I don't understand the point you are trying to make. Brute didn't activate under certain narrative circumstances, it was an always on-bonus die to every attack. If you wanted something that works under certain circumstances, you wouldn't look to brute at all. And, if you are creating a...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

I still think the number of uses should not be limited, but the duration changing could be fun. The problem is though, you are setting it up that only level 8 artificers can make a bedroll that lasts through the night. Which is a bad restriction in my opinion. Maybe a number of days equal to...

I don't really see how that is effectively any different than the crafting rules. It would be faster perhaps, but you can already craft and double your money pretty endlessly if that is all you want to do.
