And by taking that option, which I don't think is the reason they wrote "Wizard cantrips" They also banned Thorn whip, Spare the Dying, Sacred Flame, Starry Wisp, Vicious Mockery, ect Which brings us immediately back to the top of this page where you said Where I agreed with you that Eldritch...

And your Barbarian could wield a shard of glass as their primary combat weapon for twenty levels. You presented you example of why someone would take the same spell twice as using a feat to get a free casting of a spell they received from a subclass list. My point is that the only reason they...

Right, but if you don't want the Eldritch Blast cantrip allowing the EK to make seven attacks, then you either ban all of it, or have a discussion about how that one specific interaction is problematic. If you don't care about that interaction it is fine to allow, obviously.

Hmm, true. Forgot that they still had these. Then again, book is not final, so they may alter that

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Very subtle changes with the Berserker and the Cultist, but changes I like quite a bit. The Berserker is actually a bit scarier now. Well, this puts the last nail in the coffin for me. Resistance to non-magical weapon damage is completely gone. Good riddance I think, as it allows them to far...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I was catching up still. The sprite does have an odd interaction to my mind, because the charm doesn't last very long. It only lasts til the sprite's next turn, so they can't use it to charm someone and do anything with it. It seems mostly designed to make it so the sprite cannot be...

I had actually made Bugbear into Dark Fey for my games a LONG time ago. Kept the Goblins and Hobgoblins as something else, but Bugbear are just perfect for the role. Long, spindly, bestial sneaks who can squeeze into small spaces? They are excellent fey.

Yes, I am sure your good personal friend Jeremy Crawford who you have had deep personal conversations with on this topic has admitted to you that he cries bitter tears every night because he was denied the chance to make the game he actually wanted to make. Maybe one day you'll convince him to...

For me though, that wasn't out of the box. It was a basic tactic that has been used for decades. Against EVERYTHING Here's a question. Has there EVER been a Ranged Brute? Kiting and avoiding melee was the preferred tactic against all oozes, all golems, bugbears, orcs, gnolls, hobgoblins, ogres...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Eh, I don't really see the Keen Hearing and Smell thing as a flavor loss. It is just as "flavorful" to give them expertise instead of advantage, so the only difference now is that it doesn't say "dogs smell things good and have sharp ears" which... they are a dog. And they basically always...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I think this change is actually different. I'm thinking there are no longer going to be "bugbear" or "bullywug" entries. See, there was always this weird thing. Commoner NPC statblocks exist for the civilized species. A human or halfling commoner is very different from a human or halfling...

Grabbing a few random thoughts from this. Worgs are not wolves, so I don't care that wolves knock people prone and worgs don't. Wolves from the PHB still knock prone. I kind of like that a Worg is being shown as a different type of thing, a monstrous beast whose attack is so vicious that if...

Right, so you have NO CHOICE to retrain Dissonant Whispers, exactly like I said.

I agree it would be awkward as a rule, that is why it is better for homebrew and table restrictions. This sort of "technically you can, but it would make a mess of things" situation is exactly what those conversations are meant for.

Agreed. I think it will change a lot about how people approach 5e combat, and shake up a great deal of established tactics and expectations.

I agree, and I think this is better handled by just talking to the player at your table and restricting Eldritch Blast. I think it would be neat to allow a character who took Magic Initiate and grabbed Spare the dying, to represent a healing side to their EK being able to cast that spell for...

But you aren't actually gaining any benefit. I guess unless you are a Wizard and you have no choice in changing spell selection. But let's stick with a Sorcerer for a moment. Let us say that you take Invisibility at level 3, then at level 4 you take Shadow-Touched to get a free casting of...

Oh, didn't think of cowards. Had one Pacifist who was playing a 4e Deva. She had a really cool idea of being the girlfriend/lover of a Diety, reincarnating through time. Then proceeded to try and pull the "my boyfriend is a god who will solve this for me" card (it was one of my first times...
