Much of this is not the same sort of thing however. I agree feats like Magic Initiate are amazing. But if I make a cleric, I am not going to take magic Initiate and choose for my casting stat to be my 12 Intelligence instead of my 16 Wisdom. I find it very, very telling that every single feat...

Yeah, I was initially happy about those, but they are SO incredibly weak, and the wands are the only ones that I could see anyone using. Going out of your way to have a specific orb, that can use a reaction to reduce one instance of a specific elemental damage by an average of 2? It isn't enough...

I agree that is the most likely RAW that can be taken from this. Right, but wanting to focus back on my original point. The Bladesinger or the Valor bard COULD learn, say, a Cleric cantrip via either a dip or the use of Magic Initiate, and their wording of their extra attack would allow that...

But why would there be any edge cases? Sure, as Sorcerers Apprentice points out, if you made a wizard/Sorcerer and if your intelligence was higher then there is a valid difference between using the spell as a wizard (With a better attack stat and DC) and with Innate Sorcerery (with advantage...

Is there a need to be so aggressive just because I wanted to again point out that it isn't really something people do, in light of ECMO3 berating me for days over their "totally real" character build that completely invalidates any opinion I could possibly have since I didn't immediately lie to...

Except that the level 10 Bard feature specifically says those count as bard spells for your character. So it doesn't make sense that they needed to open up Valor Bard spells to cover multiple spell lists in that case. I really think it is more of a factor that the Eldritch Knight is attached...

I'm fine with the shrug, but if it was a shrug from the beginning, seems like a strange interjection to make.

I'll offer a counter-anecdote. I've taught people how to play DnD and 5e in particular, while having played the game since Next. And I've had some of those players plan and play multi-classed characters, and I prefer not to play multi-class. Yes, there might be a tendency, but even if there...

Except... why are you multiclassing Wizard and Sorcerer? They don't mix and you end up weaker than either by doing so. Especially if you are focusing on Wizard. Like, sure, you can make a weaker attack at advantage this way, but you also could have just played a sorcerer and done that but better.

If you wanted to limit it to only spells learned from the wizard spell list, I wouldn't say you are factually wrong for doing so. It is a valid reading. I just... don't think it needs to be limited like that. Whenever you level, you can swap spells around, especially cantrips. I don't see a...

But War Magic does use "your", and even if it didn't, it isn't a feature that grants spells, and no one would realistically believe that it is supposed to. You'd basically be running into bad faith rules lawyers trying to make an exploit based on a bad faith reading. So I don't really see what...

Strawman. I never said they don't exist. Just that they are incredibly rare because they tend to be badly made characters. And we are discussing the 2024 rules where that is no longer the case. WHY do you think it is no longer the case? I think it is because people didn't like it, it made them...

Because this "When you reach Fighter level 10, you learn another cantrip you learned as an Eldritch Knight of your choice." and this "Whenever you gain a Fighter level, you can replace one spell on your [Eldritch Knight spell] list with another Eldritch Knight spell you have learned for which...

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

This argument would be similar to saying that the rules state you can drink a potion as a bonus action, but that since they don't specify it needs to be a potion you own, you could drink any potion from the DMG without having to find it first. There is no reason to ever consider someone can...

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

I think it is worth pointing out for #1 that while DnD Beyond allows you to take the same cantrip twice, it seems a bit of a stretch to read intent into that. There is literally no circumstance in the entire game where doing so is beneficial. No one would ever do that. So, the fact that the...

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

I think my initial point is getting blurred by all this. That "wizard spell" in Improved War Magic means "An Eldritch Knight spell learned by this subclass from the Wizard Spell list" and that you must specifically track only those spells you've learned as an Eldritch Knight to use with this...
