    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Yeah, interesting how I chose three classic monsters that appear in myths and stories. Sure, could have picked "Elf" but since most fairy tale elves are a foot tall, and are actually represented better by other fey, it didn't seem worth the squeeze. You don't think there is any connection...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

You mean the exact thing people were clamoring for when the "Male Medusa" was revealed and people talked about how they hate that the monsters are called Medusas because that is the name of a specific Gorgon? Look, I'm not going to say "because they are Fey in myth" is the absolute best reason...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Okay.... and? By that logic then Pixies, Sphinxes, Genies and more shouldn't have creature types, because the lore behind that particular monster could change at any time depending on the whims of the designer. That doesn't make for a solid foundation to base anything on.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

They never said that? They said they were finishing a process they began years ago (true) and that it reflects their place in classical myth and folktales (also true) Yeah. That's what makes sense about it. Real World myth and a lot of fantasy stories pulling on real world myth to connect...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

It isn't inconsistent to say that elves who have been on the material plane for dozens of generations (of elves mind, you not human generations) are no longer Fey with ties to the Feywild. It is a choice, yes, but it is not inconsistent.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Aren't ALL changes the designers make essentially top-down decisions? Like, even with things like bonus action potions which were an incredibly common house-rule... not all tables used them so for those tables that was a top-down decision. Designers are at the top, there is really not any other...

Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

Two. Shifting Two races out of the monster section. Drow (a subrace of elf) and Orc. Those are the only two we have confirmed as being not in the 2024 monster manual. Maybe we don't have Svirfneblin either, hasn't been confirmed. But them being in the 5e core Monster Manual was a bit odd as I...

Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

Well, if you google Quipper you get two things. 1) An online programming language 2) DnD fish monster So, probably because no one knew what they were from the name, and everyone just called them piranha's at the table.

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Stat Block Compilation

I would let them keep the 4th, because the fight started in the lair. But the chances of them fleeing far enough, but the fight continuing, seems unlikely. Most Lair effects from the older books seemed to have a mile radius, so I'm assuming you need to get at least over a thousand feet away...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

And none of those books have been printed for twenty years or more. So why would you expect a new change to come with the type of information they no longer provide? These sort of changes existed long before 5e too.

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

We can agree to disagree on if Gith are Humanoid, Abberation, or swap between them, sure. I'm not going to agree to disagree that Crawford said "If a Gith PC were to retire from adventuring, would they undergo a Type change back to Aberration" Yes, I know you did the little winky face, but...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

The particular cellular changes made by the Illithid react to the timeless thought energy of the Astral plane, much like Kryptonians absorbing sunlight, activating enough energy to create a resonance tipping the Githyanki into Abberration energy signatures. Done. An explanation that works with...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Didn't know I could get a point that high over a person's head. What I'm talking about is that people are losing their minds about the biology of Gith, but the designers are not biologists, the category of Aberration is not a biological descriptor with a robust definition. Magic doesn't care...

Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

Honestly, I'm mostly just bemused by how people are treating this. We certainly never had any trouble making flavorful NPCs of Dwarven Warriors, Elvish Bandit Lords, Human Bishops and dozens upon dozens of others. Honestly in most of my games those were the most memorable fights. And we've...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Two things can be true. What if the changes to the Gith done by the Mind flayers left them more open to the forces of the Far Realms and Limbo altering them? Then being away from those influences would leave them without those influences. I think we are really running face first into the DMG...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

So can you point me to where the flesh and blood dragons were categorized as Humanoid? Since humanoid means corporeal being? Plants and beasts too, right? I hate being like Diogenes here, but when you present a bad definition, I feel it needs to be called out.

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Are you asking how evidence might change your opinion on something? Because I would hope that's rather obvious. Also, you don't have to like it, but if your complaints about it are based on lies and misinformation.... then you don't have valid complaints.

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

They did give reasons. I think their reasons are quite good. Insisting that they did not give reasons and did it for no reason is a lie. I mean, you literally say they didn't give any logical or rational reason, then later say they gave reasons. You just don't find them rational. That's on you...
