    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Spellbook Cards Preview

I imagine these are in the standard playing card/M:tG size format so they'll fit in 3x3 baseball card sleeves. Might help ease the transition for some 4e fans (myself included).

BadWrongFun: how far is too far??

I get annoyed when the players buy hemp rope and don't spring for silk rope. Hemp itches something fierce.

    D&D 5E (2014) Flame Skull

4e had flaming skull familiars (and also the non-flaming variety). A tiefling wizard in my last campaign made a familiar out of the skull of a (now nearly-powerless) lich they defeated. The two didn't really get along (but it always followed the letter of his orders) and it was constantly...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bringing Back Thievery

In 3e only a rogue can detect/disable traps with a DC higher than 20. It doesn't look like Pathfinder retained that rule.

Are we still talking about Eldarin?

Does it have elctrolytes? It's what plants crave.

    D&D 5E (2014) Muls - 5th edition?

I'd probably do something like this: +2 Con, +1 Str, +1 Wis Size Medium, Speed 30, Vision Normal Toughness: Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level. Tireless: You have advantage on saving throws against exhaustion and against effects that would...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Potion of Healing

If I change any of my campaigns over from 4e, one of the first things I will be doing is creating a bard college for healing, a paladin oath for healing (knight hospitaller?), a battlemaster option for inspirational healing (warlord), and a druid circle for healing (shaman). If I'm lucky these...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you preface D&D to newbies for their first time?

One thing I'd encourage for new players is to try to get them to think like their character, speak and act (figuratively speaking) like they would rather than just playing themselves. It helps if you have premade characters with some fleshed-out background details, and can be a little more...

People might be confusing them with Warhammer Eldar.

    D&D 5E (2014) Lets Rank the 5e Skills!

That is a pretty bizarre, narrow-minded line of thinking. So if the party wants to chase a fleeing thief across rooftops, if some of the party members are unable to make all the relevant skill checks, I should tell the players the thief escapes because skill training. Gotcha.:hmm: What...

    D&D 5E (2014) Lets Rank the 5e Skills!

I can honestly say that in nearly 25 years of D&D I have seen a party buy a mule exactly once. It got carried off in a wyvern attack a few sessions in.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Potion of Healing

I would hate for 3e's wand of cure light wounds to become 5e's potion of healing. Keeping them (relatively) expensive is worthwhile to me. That said, 10 days for a single potion seems a little excessive. I'd probably allow people to double the expense to halve the time (making them the same...

    D&D 5E (2014) Lets Rank the 5e Skills!

Like you mention, some skills you will definitely want at least one party member to have, while others are useful to everyone. I don't think an A-F scale is really a good fit, as some of those "C" skills are vitally important to the party as a whole, and being a C implies they're mediocre...

    D&D 5E (2014) PH(B) Hermit Background

The Power of "NO". Banned Races and Classes?

Races: I facetiously banned shardminds, just because I think they're so bizarre, but if somebody actually wanted to play one I'd figure out a way to reskin it and make it work. My FR campaigns don't allow Dark Sun or Eberron races, and the Dark Sun game uses only DS races (plus a few more I've...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

Flame Skull and the one enemy spellcaster I looked at have both slots and prepared spells listed, so presumably. The monster guide doesn't have any explicit rules on spellcasting monsters. The monster stat blocks simply state that they cast spells as a level x wizard, with these slots and...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

Although I am a big fan of self-contained stat blocks, I don't mind looking up a few spells if they're kept to a minimum. Stormonu's (who I can't XP yet) one-liners would be great. You'd also have to include the at higher levels augmentations, though, or you'd be doing the monster a disservice.
