D&D 5E (2024) Feat Levels vs Feat Chains

Oooooohhhhhhh. Me likes. Though, if the Crafting feat is anything to go by, we might end up with gold as magic items XP track again. Maybe. But if they don't do it, I will. I'll even throw in the option to build off racial spell lists instead of Magic Initiate. As for the proposed change... I...

D&D 5E (2024) Feat Levels vs Feat Chains

I'm kinda expecting a Magic Initiate feat chains that goes from 1 to 19 and gives you a spell for every level. Imagine a spell sword made entirely by feats.

D&D 5E (2024) Feat Levels vs Feat Chains

Dunno, but it might help offset linear-quadratic martial v. Caster issues, so if we think in terms of "What would Heracles Do?"

D&D 5E (2024) Feat Levels vs Feat Chains

I'd like to point out something I remember from the UA video. One of the things that they mentoned was something to the effect of "you know these are level 1 feats because there's no +1 stat on them." So, its possible that everything's going to become a half-feat at higher levels.

D&D 5E (2024) Feat Levels vs Feat Chains

I'm not okay with feat taxes. Too few feats with a high chance of games ending before we get to the third tier means it's not worth it. If something is too powerful, just raise it up a tier. Or break the feat up. 3e style feat chains existed to delay abilities to a higher level. Now, we can...

D&D 5E (2024) Feat Levels vs Feat Chains

Most classes seem to give you one feat per tier. So, I'm imagining we will see some feat chains that take a feat idea and scale it up each level bracket. Like, imagine taking magic initiate every time til level 18 and getting a 9th level spell then. Or Savage Attacker getting progressively...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

Paladins deciding to smite or not after they see a 20 always felt cheesy to me. I'd rather just reword smite so the spell slot isn't consumed on a miss, but you can't Crit fish like you can now. That said, part of the fun of a crit is picking up a bunch of extra dice and rolling it. On the...

D&D 5E (2024) Feat Levels vs Feat Chains

I suspect the level requirements are just going to be based on the tiers. 1-4, 5-10, 11-16, 17+. Kind of like 4e divided things into heroic, paragon, epic. And it's not like 4e didn't have feat chains. Heck. Wouldn't be surprised if Magic Initiate had a new version each bracket, each...

    D&D 5E (2024) Companions, Familiars and Summons

Paladins got mounts, technically. Warlocks got Chain pact familiars. Artificers got their constructs. All the "half" caster types, really. I'd like to see all four really get fleshed out. Casters like druid will probably be stuck with Tasha Summons. Or the things from Circle of Fire / Wizard...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D gets gnomes close to perfect

I once did some digging into where gnomes came from. The D&D version anyways. And I read that, when they were concieving of the gnome, the writers wanted to make a new jack-of-all-trade race, but in a different way from humans. So, smol and tricksy-stealthy, like halflings. Likes digging and...

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have the sorcerer fixed now? (Plz, I beg you n_n°)

Then kindly explain what that line from the UA means, please. Because it seems to be indicating that. I mean, it'd be good for the Sorcerer too, because no more wizards automatically being better spellcasters by virtue of a more comprehensive list. So that's one thing.

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have the sorcerer fixed now? (Plz, I beg you n_n°)

The UA doc says, "In future Unearthed Arcana articles, we'll show how Classes use these lists and how a Class or Subclass might gain spells from another list." Emphasis mine. I can't see any way of interpreting this other than Classes use one of these lists for their spells, with an option to...

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have the sorcerer fixed now? (Plz, I beg you n_n°)

I think, based on the origins video and the UA, they're actually eliminating individual class lists for sorcerer, wizard and warlock and merging them into that one Arcane list. Probably still have individual subclass lists, but... I think base wizards and base sorcerers will use the same list

D&D 5E (2024) Custom lineage for 5.5E. Build your own race:

Totally not a Gith We've got orcs, we've got fiends, dhampirs and beastfolk and more. So, with all the monsterfolk running around, it's time to do the PC version of the abomination. For this, I want to start with the Gith as a base. (1)Psychic Resistance - resist psychic damage, (1) Communicate...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

I've come to feel that there should be only 5 PC alignments. CN has yet to prove itself PC friendly to me. Even the CN plane is filled with the antagonistic Salad compared to, say, indifferent modruns. And I've also come to feel that LN is played as Lawful Evil-lite, the PC friendly version of...

D&D 5E (2024) Half-race feats how would you design them?

Other than a stat block that says "half-elf," what do people even want from a half-elf? Lke, 3e started the trend towards them being the diplomat-elves instead of just being tied to a region. Which I think is a workable concept for an elf subrace, and it's what I think of when I hear...

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have the sorcerer fixed now? (Plz, I beg you n_n°)

Warlocks are D&D's version of witches, not sorcerers. They even get the pointy hats!

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have the sorcerer fixed now? (Plz, I beg you n_n°)

So. My 2$ worth on the sorcerer. Tasha was indeed on the right track. However!!! Most people think about the themed spell lists, maybe the alt. features, and that's it. Oh no. There is more I want from Tasha's. There are two magic items - gemstones/crystals and the blood vial. The blood...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&d and alignment: new approach

Alignment was basically enshrined as a sacred cow when D&D Next was still being playtested. It's never going away. Maybe rendered completely meaningless, but ways going to be a line for it on the sheet. I mean , hells, I accidentally started an alignment argument once by jokingly calling...

D&D 5E (2024) Half-race feats how would you design them?

Half-orcs started off as a work around to let people play an orc back when orcs were Always Evil. The traits have always been about bing orcish. The only part that came from the human/elf/etc half was Free Will. The 1dd orc is just the 5e half-orc without Brutal Crit. Which is a good thing -...
