D&D 5E (2024) 5e Aasimar are in the Players Handbook − what should the flavor be?

What flavor? I'm a big fan of neopolitan. Joking aside... I would sooner recomend pairing them with Araoskha and Kenku like options (or the birds from Humblewood), maybe a dash of harpy, focusing on making this into a flying based race than I would spend focusing on making them mini-paladins...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

We have mana systems. Spell points for casters, stamina / supeiority dice /rage / Ki (or dp) on martials. Purely out of curisoity, why does Fizbin's Treasury of Dragons not fill that Draconomicon niche for you?

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

There are 3 CHA based social skills, 1 INT based, and 2 WIS based. Similar breeak down in 3 and 4th editions. This has nothing to do with 5e and everything to do with CHA being a crappy attribute.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

nitpick - understanding people falls under Insight and Wisdom (as the notice stuff attribute). Likewise, the ability to analyze peeps is Intelligence and Investigation; or History for etiquette and fashion.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Clearly, the drow-made poison that exists in the fantasy world of D&D does it. We know for a fact it works by entering the bloodstream - one of the supplements flat out said it. And it deals poison damage on the hit. Pure poison damage can be used to knock someone below 0 HP in 6 seconds and...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

For all those who are claiming that PC hit points aren't meat - There are multiple poisons in this game that work on the assumption it is getting into your bloodstream, as it activates on a hit. Which means that HP is in, at least part, meat. You're bleeding. Its not the only mechanic that...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Someone asked why people had issues with this ability. I answered - many find Commander Strike unsatisfying and unreliable. You might be okay with it, and more power to ya, but it is a wider concern for many. Its likee Ranger's Favored Enemy and Terrain. Relying on outside factors is generally...

Rules as Written: 6-8 medium encounters per adventuring day Rules as Played: Lol. Lmao.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Oh, that reminds me. There was a mechanic in another game that had sacrifice HP as a mechanic... but it was also a reward, because there were number of abilities that empowered you at half or lower HP. Similar to "Bloodied" from 4e. Could do an aura or whatever that rewarded low hp to make...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Variance is fine so long as it doent make players feel weak. That is a vibe that can ruin enjoyment, according to surveys. Its a common complaint with Commander stirke. People asked why the balance was considered "difficult" with granting attacks. These are the common answers I've run into...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

The well known variances in Commander Strike makes me wonder if this is a serious question or just being contrary. Rogue or pally smite is outright superior to an attack with a simple weapon and dump stat.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

That will be a firm "Maybe." 1d&d monk has 3 flurry of lows BA at lvl 11. This is key to doing damage as a monk, leaving their base attack with 2 attacks. An equal level 1dnd Fighter gets 4 attacks with Nick. Bard cantrip gets even worse. Variations are still there.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Oh. I thought cleric kit was official. Ah, well. Learn something new. That said, I think it would have been fine as a Rogue kit. but tHats just me. Because its impossible to balance. In 4e everyonehad a basic attack. In 5e? A warlock basic attack is multiple eldritch blasts. Rogue has...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Hrm... that could work. HD is a criminally underutilized resource that could be tapped into. Would even work with the Rogue, who is oddly the only martial without a stamina resource. Outside soul knife anyways.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Ish? Like, it wasn't mind blistering terrible, but it was an attempt to be a striker class (ie high dps single target) that didn't have a striker feature - it specialized in melee based AoEs, which kind of had niche applicability. The mechanics ended up pushing you in a different direction...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

No, the other way. It ends up as a different vibe from what people would expect from "Sacrifice HP" as a mechanic. If anything, it ends up feeling MORE like just a spell thing, because you're injuring yourself to use a technique that pushes you past your normal bounds, but.. then all the...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Sucked. Past tense. 1dnd monk is awesome. And, to be fair, past monks in previous editions have all just been piles of abilities with no real thought put into how the games work. "Proper translation" implies that there's some uber-monk archetype out there, and there just isn't outside of...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

When people suggest risking your life by sacrificing HP, its usually because there is the assumption that the sacrifice involves risking the battle turning against you. That's not what actually happens. This is just making the ability cost more... superiority dice, or whatever is used. A...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Honestly? The main reason I'd be against this is because its effectively taking control of an NPC. Which is the domain of the DM, mind-control abilities, or an attempt to codify Titles into a class. I know you're trying to suggest they're willing signing up, and showing up under their own...
