    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Applying culture to the monsters isn't exactly novel. The D-series from the 70's is a good example, showing the drow as evil but as a highly structured society, and the kuo-toa as primitive and evil, but not outright aggressive, and you have the possibility to "appease their customs" instead of...

D&D 5E (2024) Best fix for conjure minor elemental?

I would keep the old version, the niche for true summoning spells where you conjure monsters from another plane is already lacking.

    D&D 5E (2024) Forgotten Realms Player Guide

As much as I love Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, we had excelent guides for both in BGDiA and RotF, I ran an entire campaign from level 1 to 7 using only the Baldur's gazetteer. I wish they published something about Neverwinter instead.

    D&D General Millennial D&D (+)

You can't have gold as XP in this economy, by the time a boomer wizard would be level 20 and living in a tower, you would still be level 3 and trying to rent a barn to sleep at night.

    D&D 5E (2024) Player's Handbook 2024 Table of Contents

I'm glad the "how to play" rules are all condensed before the "how to create a character" rules. When I introduce a new player to D&D I say which chapters are essential to read and which ones are just character creation, and they are always surprised the 300+ pages book only have 30 or something...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

If you have a cleric from the war domain you can do it in about three rounds! Edit: oh, nevermind, now I understood the context

D&D General Could a real human survive your D&D adventures?

Maybe they could survive one day of adventures, but if they can't get back to 100% of their capabilities with a night of sleep after fighting monsters, falling into pits, barely dodging fireballs, having their strength sucked by undead and being cursed by hags.... I don't think they will survive...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I have seen some comments on Ginny being "more an influencer" than the others, but I don't understand why's that. To me all they've been chosen by WotC as having potential to influence people to buy their product (marketing).

D&D 5E (2014) Players, would you play in a multi-year campaign that used only the 5.1 SRD?

Sure, why not? If I'm going to make just one character I don't need all the options, I just need one character that I can fit in these options. What stings the most is not having feats, so I would discard playing a human or a fighter, since both are a too plain for me without feats. Maybe I...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

It's really cool! And it's getting way more common in the last decade than it was when I started playing in the early 2000s. I hope Riggs is right in when he says the hobby is getting a broader and more diverse public, because that's how the hobby will stay relevant. Even if I still buy D&D...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

My view is this is the "suspicious" interpretation. Going out of their way to say "we don't care if we offended you" is weird and can set the tone of how people read it. In a vacuum I would say it's mild, but it's not the only time we saw EGG saying that kind of stuff, or worse. Edit: And I...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

Re: Tiamat and the gygaxian female villains: As it has been said a few times on this discussion, I don't think it's a problem per se, but I think the accompanying comment about Women's Lib make it very suspicious, at least. But in my personal experience as a woman and a dungeon master, the...

    Just saw Delicious in Dungeon

The "primary source" Ryoko Kui used for the manga is Wizardry, which is surprisingly similar to AD&D. I'm musing about writing some quick rules on Dungeon Meshi OSE Advanced. It would be mostly replacing "XP for gold" with "XP for being healthy" following these three rules: 1. get proper...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

As a woman I had a similar experiences trying to play D&D in the early 2000s. Even if the bad rep isn't as strong as it was back then I still hear a lot of awful stories, and I still have a rough time talking about the hobby with other woman because the awful stories they heard.

    D&D 5E (2024) How you going to roll... 5.24 into your game(s)?

I'm planning to adopt 2024 edition, but not as an early adopter. I'll wait until they drop the the first additional source book, when the community already know what to expect and how to round the edges. I'm not starting any more campaigns in 2014 edition, but I'll wait until the active ones end...

D&D General The Greyhawk Pantheon: How Greyhawk Approaches Deities (& Demigods)

I'm glad the seeds of my blasphemy bought us another of your great Grayhawk posts! They're part of the reason why I'm excited about the Grayhawk reboot.

D&D General Forgive my blasphemy: downplaying the Grayhawk gods

This post is a simple question: what's the effect of downplaying gods in Greyhawk, or even replacing the whole pantheon with something else? I know that they are a late addition, so maybe it's not a big deal. As a grey box person I always felt Greyhawk gods were a bit too "gonzo" for my taste...

    D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The New Dungeon Master's Guide's Greyhawk Map

While I can't compare it with Darlene's because her map is my inspiration on "how to draw maps" since I started playing and I would be biased because of it, this new map is my favourite large scale Schley's map yet, I love how he drew all these mountains and cliffs.
