You made me realise The North is the 2e's boxed set not the 1e's book, and I was endorsing the wrong product.

1E's TSR 1142 "The North" [EDIT: "FR5 - The Savage Frontier"] by Janell Jaquays is a very useful reference for North Sword Coast/Savage Frontier. EDIT: I was mistaken, the book about the North that I have isn't "The North", it's "FR5 - The Savage Frontier". My bad.

I tend to agree, except for Baldur's Gate/Candlekeep region. This region feels very empty when you compare with Cormyr and the Dalelands. I guess that's why they used it for the BioWare games: a huge city and a lot of creative freedom.

Dragonborns above tieflings is surprising for me. At least in my 5e groups I rarely see dragonborn PCs, but tiefling PCs are almost omnipresent.

Geography-wise it's more 2e Gold Box than 1e, I remember trying to cross fhe maps of Daggerford region between 1e, 2e and 5e and Ardeep Forest and surrounding woods are a bit different in 1st edition, but it have the same shape in 2e and 5e.

While 3e and 4e versions are a lot different from 5e Faerun, 2e version is the closest you can get. 2e map is closer to 5e than it's to 1e. If you don't believe it, compare for yourself and I'm sure you'll like what you see.
