Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie Review

I didn't see the movie yet, but that's kinda sad. LotR taught everyone how to do halflings two decades ago, and did it again with The Hobbit and Rings of Power. Why not just use the time tested technique?

    Steampunk Lord of the Rings

The orcs could be elves mechanically warped into something else, so we can call them Cyborks.

Campaigns in a nutshell. Adventures in a sentence.

Mononoke Hime on the Borderlands: Just rewatched Mononoke Hime yesterday and thought "hey, this guy is playing Keep on the Borderlands all wrong!" and then got me thinking, how can I reproduce this as an RPG campaign? The party goes to the Keep with an objective (in the movie, the protagonist's...

Throw me your best definition of "TTRPG"

I will introduce some folks to TTRPGs this Saturday, and while I think I can give a good explanation of "what's a TTRPG" to someone who never played any before, it got me thinking. So, as a fun though experiment, I ask you: what would be the best definition of TTRPG if you were explaining it for...

    Your Pizza Order

Jokes apart, my favorite are tomatoes, garlic, Parmesan cheese and basil. But cream cheese, chicken and dried meat are very close.

Where is this as an option?

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

I like to think that if you're wearing a full plate armor in 5e you can convert it on a half plate or a breastplate unattaching some pieces.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Commenting here because I don't think it's worth a thread. A concept: a lawful chaotic paladin. He is in service of a great lawful power in the struggle against chaos. However his moral compass and all his tactics are chaotic in nature. He is destructive, only uses inverted spells, he don't see...

Shadowdark Using Shadowdark quickstart to run The Waking of Willowby Hall. Any thoughts?

Solid advice, I don't want introduce them to TTRPGs with a TPK.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

One thing that supports your argument: where I live there is a cohesive group of torture victims survivors and families of survivors. We left a ditactorship that went from the 60s to the 80s and left thousands of victims of torture, and many missing and dead people. Torture is a very sensitive...

ToV Black Flag Playtest 2: Magic, Luck, Fighter, Wizards!

That's a bit less cool, and slightly more confusing.

ToV Black Flag Playtest 2: Magic, Luck, Fighter, Wizards!

Basic (81) edition even had a section saying somewhat like "yes, we use the word level for half a dozen unrelated things, but worry not, you'll get used to that". That being said, I love the change to spell circles. I adopted it since the Portuguese 5e translation came out using "circulo de...

Shadowdark Using Shadowdark quickstart to run The Waking of Willowby Hall. Any thoughts?

My girlfriend wants me to help her introduce her friends to TTRPGs, and I agreed running an one-shot. She tasked me with some very specific requests: She wants me to run D&D (any edition) or some adjacent fantasy game (like OSR games and Pathfinder). The players expressed they want to have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer experiment - your thoughts?

I like these! They are very flavorful. I would just change the wording on Spell Emulation to "within the next hour" or "within the next 10 minutes" so it works better outside combat encounters.

D&D 5E (2014) The Adventuring Day XP budget makes sense when you consider it is a budget for you to stock your dungeons

I agree to disagree. When I'm playing Vampire: The Masquerade, I structure the story around intrigue and politics. When playing Call of Cthulhu, I structure it around mysteries and paranormal investigation. Isn't it reasonable to structure Dungeons & Dragons stories around dungeons? Every game...

D&D 5E (2014) The Adventuring Day XP budget makes sense when you consider it is a budget for you to stock your dungeons

IMO the (short) answer to that problem is more dungeons. Once you leave the dungeon to take a long rest, the dungeon won't be waiting for you passively. Its residents are now alert they are being invaded and muster defenses, set new traps or even hunt you outside the dungeon. Thus, once you...

D&D 5E (2014) The Adventuring Day XP budget makes sense when you consider it is a budget for you to stock your dungeons

This! Also, you can stock your dungeon with one treasure hoard of the appropriate tier for each adventuring day worth of XP, and by doing that the number of adventuring days from level 1 to 20 alings perfectly with the number of expected treasure hoards.
