    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

The warlock base class is pretty good at illusions with both Disguise Self and Silent Image as at will invocation options at level 2 - and the short ranged teleports are mechanical representations of the trickster's "haha! You thought I was over there?" Seriously the Archfey Pact is a very good...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

In the sense that the core rogue can duel 1vs1 and get Sneak Attack easily from Vex or Steady Aim, and can disengage from foes they hit (at a 1d6SA cost). That's most of the stuff people use (and Advantage on skills ain't all that with Reliable Talent)

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

They don't. But someone has to be best, and warlocks, thanks to invocations, are the most build-your-own class.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

Absolutely. Pact of the Tome gives me a familiar. Pact of the Chain's is better. But an entire invocation better? That's a definite maybe. And I'd forgotten the other reason to not bother with Blade if you have tome: Shileleagh. I think if I'm a casty tomelock I probably pass on Blade and Chain...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

Of those three two are I think dead, with the big things about swashbuckler and Hexblade rolled into the base class. And they've only put non-PHB classes into the 5.24 PHB when there weren't enough. That said I'm expecting a book with thinks like a fixed storm sorcerer.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

A cantrip is in no way worth a decent invocation. That said there's also a case for Blade Pact before level 5 then switching to Agonizing Blast. And if you're Dex 14, Cha 17 then +1 to hit and damage and a mastery isn't all that.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Warlock"

I absolutely do not agree here. Pact of the Blade is an all in choice; without Thirsting Blade and possibly others including some defence you're better off with Eldritch Blast. My understanding is different to yours. The book gets conjured at the end of a rest (short or long) and comes with...

    D&D General Gnome Paladins

Had a gnome paladin (of the Blood of Vol) in 4e. His SOP was to challenge all enemies within 15' and then reactively turn invisible the first time that round one of them hit him. Leaving everyone else facing the challenge penalty or flailing at an invisible gnome.

    D&D 5E (2024) Collage of Dance Reveal

So what do you do for the now dead levels? Not adding complexity is also beneficial. I'd have preferred they make a different compromise, but making a compromise isn't inherently bad. Here I can't agree. Things not working with other things from other classes is something you can do with a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Collage of Dance Reveal

If they'd made substantial changes to the subclass levels they'd have lost backwards compatibility. Which is not nothing. And I'm in favour of 3-6-10-14-18 but I see why they did what they did. As for Ginny Di, it's pretty obvious why she's among the best paid D&D YouTubers. Making cosplay...

D&D 5E (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

It is. But what that means in practice isn't that rogues and monks are good. It means that almost everyone has a Dex of at least 14.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter weapons and masteries

As many have seen the 2024 level 9 fighter gets to use their choice of the weapon mastery property of the weapon or one of Sap, Slow, and Cleave. So let's look at them and the implications of this. Sap I consider the best tank weapon mastery before level 5 (Vex is clearly better on rogues). The...

D&D 5E (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

And I'm now thinking of the swashbucking around the 90s (from late 80s to early 00s). Princess Bride. Mask of Zorro. Robin Hood. Robin Hood, Men in Tights. Pirates of the Caribbean. Puss in Boots from Shrek. Some Musketeering (muskerhounds are always ready!). Even James Bond was doing it in Die...

D&D 5E (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

There are two depending on what you do with those weapons. Duelist and Two Weapon Fighting. Meanwhile nothing actually uses Versatile. In fact there is the same gap there for both the Zorro types and the Versatile types - nothing for a one handed weapon and empty hand/mail palmed glove...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's the future of Xanathar and Tasha? (+)

A lot of Tasha's (including the feats and some subclasses) and a little of Xanathar's (including the crafting rules and a couple of subclasses) will be in 5.24 core. Which to me fits as Xanathar's seemed to be a cutting room floor book. I'm expecting late 2025 to have a Xanathar's equivalent...

D&D 5E (2024) Maybe this is a bit late, but let's talk about Rogue's Niche, and What Rogue Should Be.

I think the 13th Age way is better than the D&D way here. And that damage dice should be primarily by wielder and number of hands used. And that a one handed martial weapon (e.g. longsword, rapier, shortsword, or scimitar) should all do the same damage in the hands of a fighter. But whereas they...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

To me the offset here is how simple and clean custom backgrounds are. In 5e each background has a custom minifeat. In 5.24 each has a stock feat. In 5e Classic feats were officially an optional rule played by 90% In 3.X Prestige Classes were officially optional. In 5.24? I predict custom...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

Amusingly this is actually the only truly bad combination. Despite @Ruin Explorer 's claims Wisdom is an ultra strong stat - about 25% of spells that force saving throws are wisdom saves, and Perception and Insight are both skills that can save your life. They are the defensive skills in...

    D&D 5E (2024) The 2014 vs 2024 PHB Compatibility Thread

No. They will be "it probably works but use at your own risk". There are cases where you need to do a bit of obvious tweaking (moving the first subclass level to level 3 and in the case of clerics taking away the extra d8 damage and proficiencies as they moved to the main class). There might be...

    D&D 5E (2024) The 2014 vs 2024 PHB Compatibility Thread

The rebalancing is on strong not extreme. Twilight Clerics, Bladesingers, Chronomancers, and Classic L2-4 Moon Druids, Sharpshooting Crossbow Experts, and PAM spear and shield padlocks will all remain very strong. And no one was playing battleragers anyway.
