D&D 5E (2014) Would appreciate any input on a homebrew feat - Wild Shape Adept

From one perspective that may be the least problematic situation. HPs only matter when you run out of them. In some games, the moon druid is not running out of hps in their two wildshapes per short rest already. In those games, this third wildshape would be almost irrelevant.

D&D 5E (2014) Blanking on my finale Dragonlance battle this weekend

As you just did Ravenloft my first suggestion is likely not a great one - have the PCs get thrust into a Ravenloft Domain that is tied to the foundation stone. A simpler answer is to add a few guardian creatures to the combat and then put it on a timer. They have X rounds to achieve their...

D&D General When did Kickstarters become a bad deal

In the board game and RPG space we saw a number of factors cause everything to go south. Freight and shipping costs have skyrocketed - so a lot of creators think they need to go with the cheapest shipping option available to not scare away / anger backers. This results in more problems with...

D&D General Dungeons and Dragons: The Makeup Set!!!

Dude. You SPECIFICALLY asked me to provide a link for the EXACT things I showed three links to support. In my several seconds of looking for the SPECIFIC things you requested I did not come across EVERYTHING I've discussed here. You can Google over-exposure on your own time. I, however, am...

Transformers and GI Jow as marketing tools ... and showing them as highly successful shows while we're at it: https://public.com/learn/how-hasbros-clever-toy-marketing-in-the-80s-birthed-the-beloved-transformers-franchise https://www.bbc.com/news/business-26196760...

D&D General Dungeons and Dragons: The Makeup Set!!!

It is. Relying upon Google to be an authority can fail you. GI Joe had a few 'lives'. The one that most of us know began with the 1983 TV series that was on after school. Transformers began the following year and were shown back to back in most markets. They, and Robotech, were the clearly...

D&D General Warlock Great Old One

And the interesting questions are there: He says the influence/analogies were not intended and he did not support people reading them into the work. However, it is interesting that they are visible without much squinting all the same ... ... but when the author has told us they were not...

D&D General Dungeons and Dragons: The Makeup Set!!!

... which is exactly why I am arguing that we should be concerned that they're going to oversaturate the markets with D&D - bringing about the end of the run on on the IP - and we'll see it be shelved more and more in favor of the next IP that rises up.

D&D General Dungeons and Dragons: The Makeup Set!!!

Did GI Joe have a plethora of movies in the 1980s that I missed? Or Transformers? No, these IPs - which ruled kids marketing in the early 1980s had their life choked out of them by the IP owners pushing for monetizing the IP too aggressively. They knew that they would be better off squeezing...

D&D General Dungeons and Dragons: The Makeup Set!!!

That must be why we don't have terms like over-exposure in marketing. Or why brands do not look at others using their IP as free marketing. It is really common for a brand to 'nova' by being so prevalent that it loses identity. There are concerns that Critical Role, for example, overexposed...

Tolkien. Look up the 'analogies' where the Lord of the Rings is World War II. Then look up what Tolkien said about it.

D&D General First person 3D fantasy grounds

The big problem with these approaches right now is that turn based combat and real time result in different perceptions of our environment. As we go more towards 3D, they begin to incorporate things like blocked sight as LordEntrails mentions .... and that can result in players not seeing...

D&D General Warlock Great Old One

Yes, there is a "... school of lieterary criticism that holds the authorial intent as completely irrelevant..." In general, it causes more trouble than it is worth. There are a lot of examples where this 'school' is used for propoganda that implies the author supported something that they...

    D&D General Plagiarised D&D art

The actual one? Someone creates art. The idea is that anyone that uses that creation needs to have the permission of the person that created it to use it. If they flat out reuse it, or modify it while using the core of it then it is wrong to use it without that permission. However, there...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

This is kind of a weird thread, but I see a lot of discussion of who has power ... but not the right discussion about whether the power should be used. In my experience: 1.) The DM has the power. If they do not want to DM, the game will not happen - and it is easier to find players than DMs -...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

You're confusing the 'core rules' of a game with the house rules a DM uses. Buying BG3 is like accepting the DM's invitation to play in their game. Larian doing nothing to stop you from using Mods to alter the game to fit your goals is like the DM allowing you to do something via house rules...

D&D General Dungeons and Dragons: The Makeup Set!!!

This should worry you as fans of D&D - because it is an example of them trying to squeeze every dime out of the IP they can at one time. It is a sign they have the short term gains as the priority, and not the long term growth of the IP. I think it is outstanding when Etsy or another small...

    D&D 5E (2014) Using "D&D 2024" instead of "5e24"

I would prefer either: 5.5 or 6E. That is how it is being approached - as a "we need to buy new books and use the new rules if we want to be current" situation. That is either a half edition change, or a full edition change. Yes, we can reportedly mix old and new ... but we've heard that...
