D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

They fixed a few things that should have been fixed in October and left dozens of abusable combos that also should have beeen fixed months ago. Not enough.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

Wow. Are all of you missing the reference to the secret errata encoded into Mike's message? I mean ... HE TELLS YOU THERE IS STEALTH ERRATA IN THE POST HEADLINE! I can't believe they're doing that to gnolls.

Again, people are doing what they want, not necessarily what WotC allows. Rule 0.

D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

I can't answer for him, but a lot of DMs are allowing 2014 legacy feats still. In one of my groups I have 5 PCs - two run 2014 builds, 2 run 2024 builds, and 1 runs a 2014 build that has selected 2024 options now ... so ... ugh. Beyond that, he could have as easily said via multiclassing, right?

D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

As you mean it, yes. In practice, there was a push to make everything fire dealing and that was ... less exciting.

D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

This is incorrect. I have not done the math recently, but it tends to help people that do not trust the calculations to spell out the number sense of it by talking about the dice combinations to show work. To get to 21, on 8,8 you only need to roll a combined 5 on the two extra dice which...

D&D 5E (2024) When will we get errata?

I have been expecting a document that substantively fixes issues with the PHB, DMG and MM - such as changing how Conjure Minor Elementals scales, avoiding the near automatic Summon Undead / Rotting Claw Paralysis tricks, etc... I expected to start seeing them after the PHB released ... so I'm...

D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

Mostly true, but there is another aspect to be considered beyond average damage - maximum damage. What are the chances of getting 21 damage on a non-crit 2d10 firebolt? 0%. What are the chances on a Sorcerous Burst? Low, but possible . Why does that matter? If your foe has 21 hps, it...

D&D General To multiclass or not to multiclass

I also am not sure how to answer here... usually, a multiclass is character driven. I occasionally have an initial plan that is likely to involve multiclassing, but usually it is organic. Where it the PC going? What are they doing? How is the campaign unfolding? Here are my recent...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

I play with adults. Thus, they're taller and it is a pat on the back. The game needs to feel different at different tiers in order for the players to feel like their characters are actually progressing. A big part of feeling progress is seeing things that used to be a challenge be taken for...

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

This. 10000%. The first thing I did was homebrew a page of these for common species in my setting so that I could apply them. If a PC can gain abilities for their species, so should an NPC. And some of the 'translations' they suggest show a massive lack of understanding of their own...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

Feedback. Let's walk it through: Each PC in a group is going to run their PC through a gauntlet as part of a challenge. Each PC is 12th level. Player A has a pure barbarian with no proficiency in perception or investigation - and 8s in Int and Wis. Player B has a Monk PC with an 18 Wisdom, 12...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

Generally no. However, if you want them to scale so that they continue to provide challenge, you could provide them with a reason to scale. It could be as simple as the campaign starting in fall and then seeing the weather worsen in winter ... or it could be that a BBEG is getting more and...

D&D General What races/species populate your DnD world?

My primary world has a surface area 12 times the size of Earth. It also has a Dyson Sphere-like Underdark surface nearly as big. Beyond that world, I have a heavy humanoid presence in the Elemental, Astral, Fey and Shadow realms. The majority of species came about when the Gods realizes that...

D&D 5E (2024) "No magic items are necessary" vs Magic Items Awarded by Level

Errrr.. that is the number of items per party, not per character. Per the DMG: To that end, at 16, a PC might have a legendary (or not), could have 1 or 2 very rares, 3 or 4 rares, and a wide array of uncommons and commons. That is spot on for the approximate level I've seen historically in...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

I know we all like to dig into our opinions and defend them regardless of the facts ... but ... There are DMs and players alike that are here to tell you that you can run a game under the 2024 rules without the game being tedious, monotonous, lagging or boring. That inherently means it is not...

D&D General Former WotC Employee Greg Bilsland Returning to D&D?

Am I right in recalling he was primarily a 4E era contributor? Did he phase out in early 5E?

D&D 5E (2014) Which was the most recent Wizards adventure you consider a classic?

I think the best way to figure this out is a survey - List the 5E adventure paths and then ask two questions: Did you play it, and if so what score between 1 and 10 would you give it with a 5 being ok and a 10 being the single one and only best adventure path you know.

D&D 5E (2024) Messed Up an Encounter. Level 8 PCs.

Might I suggest the use of Hunger of Hadar by that (Aberrant) Sorcerer. The important line in the spell is "No light, magical or otherwise, can illuminate the area, and creatures fully within it have the Blinded condition." Yes, your spawn are taking damage from cold and acid - and are blind -...
