My point is that I can understand the perspective that games that follow a Narrativist agenda can feel more like storytelling exercises than games to some people.

A satisfying conclusion to the story being told.

What games would you expect a Sim GM to go for? And what sort of GM would you say goes for any version of D&D, if it definitely isn't one who likes Sim?

Many games, including D&D, may have Sim or Narrativist-leaning mechanics in different parts of their rules, without being fundamentally a Sim game or a Narrativist game. As an aside, if rules in a book are such an important part of your RPG enjoyment, what kind of gaming do you enjoy and what...

I can see that point. I certainly wish I could have nothing to do with 5.5. But as you say the vast bulk of talk will remain there...forever.

Are they now? Is the current D&D forum not just covering the current version of the rules?

Well, I won't disagree that 5.0 and 5.5 feel quite different to me. But I'm also thinking of RPG topics like the martial/caster debate, or the monumental thread ostensibly about conservative players. Both show up in 5e forums, but both apply to a variety of 5e games. And there are plenty of RPG...

No, but it can make it not a bad tool, and no game is all or nothing in every aspect of it anyway.

Fair enough, but you know how little I concern myself with any majority.

You want me to explain my feelings? If I don't feel the setting has a sense of independence from me the player, such that my ability to affect it is limited to the abilities and choices of my character, then that setting feels artificial and unsatisfying to me. I am not immersed in the...

Only if the end results are all that matters to you. Is that how it is?

With a huge overlap. Just look at WotC 5.0 and A5e. Most topics that apply to the former will apply to the latter as well, and the same is true for TotV, for example.

This is one reason why I always prefer to run sandbox.

Also perfectly fine to change specific rules if you don't like them. I do it all the time.

It feels better, provides a stronger sense for immersion for those who care about it, etc. The difference is subjective, but plenty real for folk who care.

Makes sense. I didn't realize it wasn't in the SRD.

Agreed. IMO plate is logically as simply making you impervious (or nearly so) to certain weaker attacks.

Personally I preferred 3e's more granular skill system, and to that end I use Level Up's skill specialization system liberally, and have devised it's opposite for when a PC may be especially poor at one aspect of a 5e-style skill.
