Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Is it wrong that as soon as “X encounters per adventuring day” being “a requirement” comes up in any 5e rules based thread I roll my eyes and stop reading? Because my mental health has been much improved by this policy. 😉

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

🤯 That is friggin' impressive. Yeah, I will put in extra time on bigger minis because I actually have a decent shot of painting the details well (b/c they are bigger in scale) and because mess ups are easier to spot for the same reason. But I know I am never gonna be at the level of many...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

If the mini will stand on its own (because it has a built on base - like many Reaper minis) I won't bother with a base at all! If it needs a base to stand, then I base it and the details/texture I add has a lot more to do with mood at the moment than with aesthetics. Then again, I personally am...

D&D General Matt Colville: "50 years later we're still arguing about what D&D even is!"

I think that for Colville, the details of what people are arguing about is not as important as the fact that debating gameplay approach and style and interpretation of rules continues and those disagreements are broadly about the same kinds of things. What struck me about his video and the...

The case for democracy* in RPG settings

In a recent campaign when the party arrived in town to start undertaking missions and adventures, many of which at the behest of the local prefect, who was soon encouraging them to buy property and hang around and vote in the next year’s elections. The idea being that if the party supported him...

D&D General Matt Colville: "50 years later we're still arguing about what D&D even is!"

I know it's a tangent, but in my opinion (and for what it is worth, I have a PhD in Contemporary American Literature & Popular Culture), literature is not a way of writing, it is a way of reading. So yes, it is all literature, if you read the text with the attention and contextual...

D&D General Matt Colville: "50 years later we're still arguing about what D&D even is!"

Yeah. I agree. And while the content is some of the most interesting, I do think it is some of Peterson’s worst writing and it needs a new version like “Playing at the World” is apparently getting (got?). I think his analysis is always great but his writing has gotten better.

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+]

I've been slowly building a printed out black and white working version of these rules and keeping them in a three-ring binder (I find it easier to cross-reference and figure out what is missing in a print format + we'll need it for playtesting) and made draft table of contents, which I share...

D&D General What creature did you introduce against type that turned out great?

I had one too! I was using the 1E rules that some small percentage of mimics are intelligent and decided this one - Mimi the Mimic - was intelligent enough to make a deal of being fed regularly in return for guarding the treasure within and around it! I don't even know what an eladrin is, but...

The case for democracy* in RPG settings

My current setting and the one I am tying my “Vanity Frankenstein 5e” rule set to is a democracy. The two major factions are “traditionalists” who are wealthy descendants of former nobles who generations later use their wealth and influence (they have the best chance of being elected or...

D&D General What is your most prized Dungeons and Dragons Product?

My copy of the original AD&D Fiend Folio, which my mom bought for me for my 12th birthday, about a week early at the B. Dalton's in the Albee Square Mall in 1983. Still my favorite monster book. But honestly, I have a lot of things I still cherish and a few things I wish I still had.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

If I used a laughing emoji on one of your posts it was unintentional, unless you said something funny I’ve forgotten.

    D&D 5E (2014) Infinite Staircase Version of When a Star Falls - a request

Hey all! While I have not gotten a chance to pick up Tales from the Infinite Staircase or even seen a version on the shelf I can page through at a store, I am running my own conversion to of UK4 When a Star Falls to 5e using the original version, which I’ve owned since the 80s and run twice...
