What do you think of the new Imbued Staff Article in Dragon?

You know, one of these days we're going to be able to communicate in nothing but Order of the Stick references. Instead of "Darmock and Jalad on the ocean" it'll be "Roy and Elan at the inn." :p

    A Moral Dilemma

I was responding to those who suggested that perhaps there weren't any other choices. i.e. the PCs can only either a) go without, b) take the goods by force, c) take the goods by force and kill everyone, etc. That PC choices outside of the presented puzzle would be rejected out of hand to...

    Undead Player Characters?

I wasn't suggesting grotesque undead, I was suggesting recognizable undead. Vampires certainly fall into that category, IMO. ;)

    RIng of Spell Turning

I am very close to convinced, myself...

I got kicked out of my group!

I introduced a rape scene in a previous campaign, in which two of the three players were women in their 20's (I was in my 20s at the time as well). It was in a manor house haunted by "imprints" of past horrors. It was my intention to graphically present the horrors in the house, so that later...

    Clerical Spell Suggestions?

I'm unfamiliar with the Vigor spells. My usage of the term "Cure spells" derives from my mostly-core play. If there's a better hit point restoration spell out there that you have access to at a given level, by all means select it instead of Cure X Wounds. :) Re-reading the Favored Soul...

    A Moral Dilemma

(Having now read the thread) A moral choice dictated by the situation is one thing. Such choices can be a part of an intriguing game. A moral choice artificially constructed (and bound with baseless restrictions) by the DM is another thing entirely. I don't play D&D to participate in an...

    A Moral Dilemma

I didn't vote, and haven't read the thread yet, in order not to taint my initial response. I would (even my current pally character)--assuming attempted diplomacy failed--take the supplies I needed, and leave fair value in coin as payment, perhaps a bit more for the man's trouble. It's the...

    Quitting a group & starting anew..ground rules?

Okay, this made me laugh. A lot. :p I agree with you, though. I can't imagine the kinds of measures described in this thread being a part of my gaming.

    Cleric Requirements

You'll note that I prefaced my comments with "IMC" meaning, "In My Campaign." As such, my clerics are tied to a church, in theory if not in actuality. Clerics, for me, are a representation of those ordained priests who are especially blessed by their gods. I think the flavor of the class...

    Clerical Spell Suggestions?

Since the character is starting so high, perhaps it is. At 15th-level, Cure Light Wounds isn't going to mean much in battle, and outside of battle a wand of same does the job admirably. But in standard play, I absolutely disagree. Unless there is also a cleric in the party, (which I've found...

Orb of Force vs Antimagic Field

I'm not going to weigh in on the actual rules discussion here. The rule is very unclear, and I don't feel I have a solid rules argument either way. I will state how I'd rule it. No, the rule about instantaneous creations does not apply. An Orb of Force cannot exist outside of the magic that...

Does being raised affect a wizard's spell aquisition?

This is my reasoning and ruling as well.

You know, I really like that SRD. I just wish there were a way for me to transfer the whole thing to my computer so I could use it offline.

Does bardic music Inspire Courage affect animals?

Exactly. It's also important to note that Bardic Music is a magical ability. It isn't the song itself that is providing the bonus, but the magic of the bard. The bard could be singing a song that actually depresses the party cleric (perhaps it was playing in the tavern when his girl left him...

    A few questions

Just to be thorough, note the part of Infiniti2000's quote that I bolded. You can be killed by Con drain, just not directly. Say you start out at 5th-level with 5d6 +10 (Con 14) HD, for 30 hp total. If you take 13 points of Con damage, your total possible hp drop from 36 to 5. But you...

    Clerical Spell Suggestions?

Since you're a Favored Soul, as a general strategy I'd pick up at least one attack spell, one healing spell (Favored Souls get no spell-swapping, meaning they can't exchange a spell for a healing spell unless they've selected it as one of their Spells Known,) and one melee buff spell (if such is...

    Undead Player Characters?

+1 for the equivalent of a continuous death ward effect plus heavy fortification armor? How is there any style to being an undead if nobody can recognize you as one?

What do you think of the new Imbued Staff Article in Dragon?

I as a DM ignore attacking familiars 95% of the time. The only time the bad guys ever attack a familiar is if it's grossly and obviously out of place in its surroundings. For instance, an owl scouting during the day, or a cat scouting in a dungeon. But if the animal is expected in the...

    RIng of Spell Turning

I don't see anything in the spell description to suggest you couldn't. I'd say yes, with the caveat that you must still be able to perform purely mental actions. i.e. you couldn't, if you were stunned or dazed.
