D&D 5E (2024) WotC On One D&D Playtest Survey Results: Nearly Everything Scored 80%+!

I very much agree with the general point that the developers are doing a poor job of writing effective surveys and presenting the results in an informative way. I want to add a couple of caveats, though: First, the percentages for each response category would be more informative than a +/-...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Permanently Removes The Term 'Race'

I don't get the impression that the decision to remove the term "race" is subject to their approval rating system (nor do I think it should be). I'm not sure whether they're as committed to "species" as the replacement, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see some A/B testing in that regard.

    D&D 5E (2024) December 1st UA Spell changes

This version of Guidance seems quite a bit stronger than the PHB version. Changing it to a reaction means you no longer need to know in advance when someone is going to make an ability check, which was previously the biggest constraint on usage. The new version of Resistance is similar in terms...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Permanently Removes The Term 'Race'

Good to know. I study plant ecology, so my animal examples may be a decade or so out of date.

    D&D 5E (2024) New UA one D&D play test document Dec 1st.

I'm not sure of this. I can imagine plenty of concepts for divinely inspired/powered adventures who don't actually know very much about religious theory/doctrine. Something along these lines would make Divine Intervention a lot more attractive in emergency situations, which thematically seem...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Permanently Removes The Term 'Race'

Taxonomic classifications above species are biologically meaningful in that they denote a group of organisms where each member is more closely related to each other member than to anything outside the group. What they don't have, is any sort of consistent scale. So a family can be as small as...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Permanently Removes The Term 'Race'

This is very much a question of setting assumptions. My default, though, would be to assume that most species in fantasy settings arose through natural selection, because the real world patterns that only make sense in light of this process are also present in most D&D settings (matching bone...

    D&D 5E (2024) Cleric Playtest Summary

I feel like the War/Knowledge/Theurge concepts are reflected in the level 2 Holy Order choice. I'd expect to see options more along the lines of Light or Tempest for the remaining subclasses.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Permanently Removes The Term 'Race'

The reasoning being that species are generally defined biologically based on the ability to interbreed (and produce offspring that are themselves able to reproduce). Of course, in nature, there are plenty of cases where reproductive compatibility isn't binary, or isn't known to the researchers...

D&D 5E (2024) Feats still optional in 1D&D: and other notes from the survey results

I think that, at a table level, it'll still be easy to play a featless game in OneD&D. It would even be possible to drop the background feat at first level without too much trouble. It may be a bit harder, though, for a player who doesn't want to use feats to be on par mechanically with players...

    D&D 5E (2024) 48 Subclasses: 4 per Class

This also seems like confirmation of no Artificers in the playtest. Which is what I think most of us suspected already, but it is disappointing. While the version in Tasha's should still be usable in OneD&D, not having it in the PHB means it's a lot less likely to get new subclasses in future...

D&D 5E (2024) WotC On One D&D Playtest Survey Results: Nearly Everything Scored 80%+!

The question was definitely there. On the other hand, it could be interpreted in a lot of different ways. Do you approve of the idea of getting a feat at level 1? Do you approve of the assignment of specific feats to specific backgrounds? Do you approve of the option to choose your own feat as...

    D&D 5E (2024) New UA one D&D play test document Dec 1st.

I agree that cosmology belongs as DMG suggestions, but I've never had an issue using the Cleric class for non-theistic or non-religious characters. As long as the player and DM are on the same page flavor-wise, the actual mechanics are fairly agnostic with regard to power source.

    D&D 5E (2024) New UA one D&D play test document Dec 1st.

The video notes that the Cleric will be the only class in this playtest, with the Druid and Paladin following later (there will also be revised versions of the Ardling and Dragonborn). A bit disappointing to me, since I'd love to have a longer playtest document to try out over Christmas break.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC On One D&D Playtest Survey Results: Nearly Everything Scored 80%+!

So they seem to be thinking that, with shared Arcane/Divine/Primal spell lists broken down by school, it might be a good quality of life change to provide classes with consolidated lists of the spells that can actually learn. This would be an improvement over what we saw in the Expert classes...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Mechanics - The best representation of modern fantasy archetypes in Dnd

Arguably, this is what the Artificer is, with infusions taking the place of invocations. The Artificer doesn't get the "double subclass choice" which is a definite downside, but its subclasses generally* do a better job of providing unique approaches to combat. *Alchemist being the exception...

D&D 5E (2024) Why no new packs since late September?

I'm skeptical of the argument that the playtest delays are a reflection of the type of feedback the developers are getting. Given the short turnaround time between closing the first survey and posting the second playtest, I'd assume that the feedback on one playtest isn't directly informing the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock brainstorm

I'm not sure what a good generic name for this would be, but one interesting possibility for a warlock pact would be one that grants expertise with a set of artisans tools and enables the warlock to store or transmit spells in items created with those tools. Potion-making would be one obvious...

    D&D 5E (2024) How to fix multiclassing?

I don't see any evidence that this is the view of "most DMs". Some certainly feel as you do, but this thread is also full of DMs who love the current system. For my part, I'd say @ECMO3 's experience here is an example of the system working as intended. A player who enjoys the system of...

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock brainstorm

I'm also in favor of alternatives to Eldrich Blast, though I'd suggest some of those alternatives should be less overtly magical. A lot of the flavor and class design for Warlocks suggest a tendency to be more subtle with their magic use than WIzards or Sorcerers, so they should have some...
