    WoD renaming, White Wolf returns

I don't know which copyright laws in particular you're referring to as fascist. While we might quibble over a few things, how long copyright should last for example, I think most of us are pretty comfortable with the idea that people should be able to profit and have some control over their IP...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Instead of Dirty Down I used some AK Interactive rust streak which is an enamel based product. Rush color streaking stuff doesn’t stand out too much on red. I used Vallejo rust wash on the arms and legs. I’m going to go ahead and call this one done. M

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I forgot that I’d need to add details before I start weathering. Other than the base, you could call this done but I’d like to weather it a bit more. This is the point of the project I’m afraid of ruining by doing more. i.e. Should I quit while I’m ahead?

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

The salt has dried and this is what you end up with. I should have said I painted the red layer using my airbrush. You might be able to use a regular brush if you’re careful though. One thoroughly dry, I waited an hour, I took an old brush and started knocking off the salt. Had I thought...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

My name is Shepherd, and this is my favorite post on the Citadel. I think you hit the nail on the head when it comes to the Ranger. Who needs them? In a game designed with niches in mind, they don't fill a particularly useful one. Hardly anyone is playing at Tier 3.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I suppose it's technically true the DM could restrict any class they want. From a practical point of view, how easy would it be for such a DM to find enough players for a campaign? I don't think it's unreasonable for anyone to show up to a D&D campaign with the expectation the base classes in...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Here’s a trick I picked up from a modeler who works on plastic cars when he wants a rusted effect. This is a Fallout miniature, a robot Nuka Cola mascot, I start by giving it a base coat of metal. For the next step, it’s important you give the paint a little time to cure. I waited two hours...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

There are only three classes necessary: The Fighting Man, Magic User, and Cleric. Everything else is superfluous.

How Long Do You Wait Before You Houserule a New TTRPG?

I try to avoid house rules where possible even if I think a rule is silly. For Savage Worlds, I instituted a house rule combining Swimming, Climbing, and Throwing skills into the singular Athletics skill long before it became the official. SW skills are supposed to be very broad, and people...

    D&D General 1s and 20s: D&D's Narrative Mechanics

For 5th Part Deux: Electric Boogaloo, I use critical rolls as written. If you roll a 20 during a fight you score a critical hit. Roll double your damage dice and let's get on with the show! I natural 20 rolled on a skill check is not an automatic success nor is rolling a 1 a critical...

    Most influential RPG

Did it have a bad reputation? This is a game I remember seeing at the game store but my friends and I never really gave it more than a cursory glance.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

Wizards of the Coast was a financially successful company flush with cash allowing them to purchase TSR lock, stock, and barrel. TSR is no more. It has ceased to be. It is bereft of life. It rests in peace. It is an ex-company. It's true that D&D the game still exists, but the company Gary...
