What is in the ultimate system?

What does your 'ultimate system' consist of? How are skills (if any)? Hit points/attacks/armor? combat? Role play? Magic? Treasure? Monsters? What makes a good game? the more detail the better (yes you can write fourteen pages of explanation, it is okay, just make it interesting)

    I need a riddle...

I have a player who loves to solve riddles, and is good at them, so it is to make them feel safe, and go for the treasure, the dragon want's a free surprise round out of the deal, that's why he sets bait, and with 2 heads, breah weapon surprise, then another the next round...or so the old rules...

    Overlooked Dragon Hoards

the BEST one I know of what a MASSIVE dragon's hoard easily with millions in gold it was an illusion, the real treasure was in a chest hidden under the illusionary hoard the players got mad and never searched, a chest of holding had ALL the treasure they saw infront of them.

    I need a riddle...

Riddles of time (or setting) approrpriate words. And for everyone else, the riddle is the bait that leads them in, they get out of the portal and are in a narrow hall, so the riddle is to draw them out into the main chamber and surprise them with rocks falling from the ceiling. if the PCs...

    I need a riddle...

my PCs are about to go fight this dragon, it's not meant to be an actual hard combat fight (they're all 13th and 14th level, teh dragon is a cr 16) but I want to give them some brain teasers in the forms of riddles and add an aspect of horror... i.e. using knowledge both sides (PCs and Dragon)...

    Nostalgasm

I was born in 1993. I convinced a few other people my age to play 1e (they play 4e, I was raised on 3e) favorite edition by far is 1e. At least for me, one player kept rolling his eyes because "my elf isn't elven enough" which made me want to tear his throat out (which I did...in game terms...

Player: "I need to level up so I can do cool stuff!"

Well to be honest I see the player's choice in what they do sort of unrealistic... example: A ranger is going up a level, he is getting a new favoured enemy (3e) his first FE is orcs he spent the last adventure fighting a lot of ogres (giants) he chooses his new FE as evil...

Player: "I need to level up so I can do cool stuff!"

I don't get an allowance.... I mean...if you want the long depressing story of my family then sure, whatever, but D&D is what's kept me and my father's father-son relationship together for so long...so in other words D&D is awesome, unless you're into dungeons of warcraft....but hey, I don't judge

Player: "I need to level up so I can do cool stuff!"

one of my players is like that, to the point where he demands certain treasure in order for him to 'play how he wants to play' now it is different with me, that player is my dad so I can't really kick him out of the group without risking..you know...no longer being fed but the best option is...

    New System Deal Breakers

I'm not talking about endless rolls in combat, just the option to dodge a blow vs attack, like fighting defensively in 3e...I think that's what you asked, was sort of unclear at times.

    New System Deal Breakers

What about the option to spend an action to dodge or parry? Rather than automatic, I agree it can drag on combat, but if its "I attack the orc, the orc has 2 actions left, he spends on action to attempt to parry and fails, so I do damage" I see no problem, its like rolling a defense check or...

    d12 system: yay or nay?

    Multi-classing, yay or nay?

Part of the character building is choosing skills, you can build a beserker (its a barbarian, let's face it) with stealthy skills, the thieves get class skills for being sneaky, they also get more skills than any other class the skills are similar to any palladium game where you get a certain...

    Multi-classing, yay or nay?

the 4 basic classes are like the generic classes, rather than giving preset abilities its like giving bonus feats, just a different times, like the warrior gets them every other level meanwhile the thief gets them every three and the priest and mage get them every four, but again, the power...

    Multi-classing, yay or nay?

They do not have 'gods' like dwarves do (Dwarven Priests are very common) Instead they focus more on the 'natural power' (arcane magic is perceived as left over energy from when the multiverse was created, rather than divine which is straight up gifted by divine powers) and heroes of the past...

    Multi-classing, yay or nay?

I ask because I am working on creating a game and the classes are very basic..but I have an idea there are four classes (warrior, mage, thief, priest) but each has 2 separate 'sub-classes' (warrior=Knight and Beserker, mage=wizard and warlock, thief=ranger and assassin, preist=druid and...

    Multi-classing, yay or nay?

Similar to my other thread about miniatures, should RPGs offer multi-classing or is it something players can do without? I think this is going to be obvious, but hey, it's worth asking.

    Miniatures, yay or nay?

What are your thoughts on miniatures and role-playing games? Should a new game use miniatures or not? Please try to stay away from the history lessons of "D&D came from chainmail which was a miniature game" because frankly that's not my question, it's what YOU think of miniatures and...

    The RANDOM dungeon.

I didn't roll up monsters in the same way as you're suppose to, I rolled up a certain amount of monsters and then put them where they would fit or be deadly. I put smart monsters (a mind flayer lets say) near a trap and around other ways (a group of halways that formed a little maze) and mix...

    Futurama's Gygaxicon and Bone Vampire

touche, but the others are still good examples of what it is referring too. Of course...what if that's what they want you to think? O.o
