Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Welcome, Greysword! While during my rpg golden era I had a substantial collection, over the years I've sadly had to part with pretty much all of it due to location moves/space consolidation. The only rpg's I currently have are D&D 5e, Champions Complete (softcover) and DC Adventures Hero's...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

The "Champions" campaign I was in, lo, all those years ago consisted of original characters, who while super-powered, were not in the same league as Superman or Batman. It was a fairly large group -- our full roster topped 12 players but due to real-life events it was very rare for all 12 to be...

Ask again after "Wonder Woman" is released. You never know...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

I think that's the one I'd like to try. I picked up the Hero's Handbook for "DC Adventures" (Superman fan here) which uses the M&M system. A local game store is doing a "Introduction to RPGs" event and will be running different systems. I need to ask him if he's familiar with Mutants & Masterminds.

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Excellent starting point/motivation for players to form their group! And you are correct -- Paragon City was the location for the "City of Heroes" MMO, which sadly shut down its servers on 11/30/12. "DC Universe Online" has its game-world in iconic locations like Metropolis and Gotham City. I...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Thank you for your post, hawkeyefan Another thing I considered was superhero MMO's like "City of Heroes" (RIP), "DC Universe Online" and "Champions Online" in that the game sets up the world like a GM would. However, you're pretty much at the mercy of the MMO's mechanics. While they're good in...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Thank you Dannyalcatraz and Morrus for your input. Years ago I had a GM who had a similar situation with gaming sessions being okay for short adventures but wasn't feeling it when it came to a full-fledged campaign. What he did was to first outline a multi-session campaign (an alien invasion...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Thank you for responding, KahlessNestor. I'm a big Superman fan myself so I recently picked up a copy of DC Adventures "Hero's Handbook", which likewise uses the Mutants and Masterminds system. I'd like to get the other three books in the series but since they are out of print I have to keep an...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Thank you for your post, Pogre. Let me ask you this, then: when you ran your campaign were the archetypes (brick, energy blaster, mentalist, magic-user, gadgeteer) all represented? Or were the players pretty much one type?

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Thank you MarkB for your post. I totally agree with you on the complexity. "Champions" did give the player the ability to come up with just about any archetype but boy howdy, it wasn't easy. Back then I could never have generated a character on my own. Thankfully a few players in our group were...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Thank you for your post, Johnny3D3D. In comics terms, the heroes in our "Champions" campaign were considered experienced but nowhere near big-leaguers like Batman and Superman. I enjoyed it because it gave our group the ability to use our different powers/skills to work together. Progression...

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Hello, all! The title pretty much sums up my question. Superheroes are enjoying the biggest popularity in years. Films, television shows, video games -- comic book heroes and heroines are everywhere. You would think that superhero RPG's would be red-hot as well right now but that's apparently...

James Bond And The Espionage Role-Playing Game

I remember that Avalon Hill/Victory Games didn't have the rights to use the villain organization "SPECTRE" for the game so they made up a new organization called (if I remember correctly) TAROT.

    Djinn Prestige Class for 3.0/3.5?

Thanks a million for the info, Arkhandus! Hopefully there will be a 3.0/3.5 sourcebook like AD&D's excellent "Secrets of the Lamp."

    Djinn Prestige Class for 3.0/3.5?

Greetings! Hopefully someone may have the answer to my question. I have a buddy who would like to play a djinn for a new campaign (DM has not decided if it will be 3.0 or 3.5 yet), but I have been unable to find a 3.0/3.5 sourcebook that has a djinn as a prestige class. Does a sourcebook or...

    Tampa, Florida anyone?

These are a great group of guys, gang. I've had the pleasure of gaming with Morpheus and Hal. They're probably tired of my repeating this again, but it was Mystic Eye Games' "Tarot Magic" that got me back into tabletop gaming. I had to take a break from gaming due to time/employment...

    Satanism d20!

That's because the masses haven't gotten wind of it. Just wait until they hear about it. Courtesy of their local news and/or religious television stations, of course. Then the fecal matter will most certainly strike the rotary oscillator. Look for this to happen around July, which is the next...
