    How to handle disarm scenarios

Here's my read: When A attempts a disarm that provokes an AoO, the aAoO happens first, right?. Therefore, if he's disarmed he loses the action because he failed. In your scenario, when B chooses to diarm in kind, A now gets his AoO. If he suceeds, B's AoO is lost, B is now disarmed, and A loses...

    Player and monster tactics

Some other ideas if they are really reckless if for them to get crushed by some oppenents but not killed. Tie them up as prisoners in an orc cave somewhere, and have a npc party of more powerful adventurers come and save them. Before they get saverd, lay on some nasty orc, maybe some rotten food...

    E-Tools Patch Release 1 help

Klintus, Thanks for the info. That is what I was afraid someone was going to say. I'm not really one to bash WoTC or Fluid, in fact, I think they have added quite a bit of value to my hobby and my life, but sometimes, I have just have to shake my head and wonder what the :) :) :) :) is going on.

    E-Tools Patch Release 1 help

I keep seeing references to a ETools Patch 1, but I apparently missed the source of that information. Can someone please post a link to where this glorious upcoming patch is described? Thanks, Kaji

Value of captured loot, esp. magic items

I really think hong is right here. Attempting to simulate a real world economy gets insanely crazy. If you did, every time the party brought back a +1 short sword or a potion of reduce (which they seem to find in EVERY treasure roll I make) they would get less and less for it as the local market...

    How many prestige classes?

Even if you wanted to take tons of PrC's, the overwhelming majority have enough requirements that you'll be limited to 3 or 4 at best. I sympathize with some who have mentioned that they disallow some classes. It does get to be a little overwhelming as a DM to keep track of all of them so you...

    Problems at the gaming table.

Well, it sounds like your wizard is being foolish, but sometimes that's the way it goes. As far as being worried about later teamwork, I guess there are a couple of different ways to handle it, depending on the personaliites involved. 1. Talk to the wizard and tell him to chill out and buy the...

*Help!* DM Forsees Party Conflict - How to nip it in the bud? (Banewarrens Spoilers)

There's nothing wrong with stretching things a little to fix what you perceive as an error and to get things back on track. I recently had similar party conflict with our party's cleric formally and openly declaring he no longer trusted the party rogue. While he had some good reasons for this...

*Help!* DM Forsees Party Conflict - How to nip it in the bud? (Banewarrens Spoilers)

I might suggest that the party's idea of Scrying for the Paladin was a good one, and that you could/maybe should have played that differently. Because the soul is the essence here, if you Scry for the Paladin while in another body, I think you should see the other body. That would normally be...

Value of captured loot, esp. magic items

Here's what we do: We only occassionaly roleplay trips to the shop. So if the PC's want to sell captured goods without a fuss, I usually give them a base 50%. If they want to play it out, there is potential to get as much as maybe 80% (depending on circumstances, but well worth the effort whne...

    Orcs, hmm...

I also remember being rather unpleasantly surprised at how tough orcs are when you hand thema greataxe. When we switched to #e, I was not quite payinf enough attention and threw what I thought was going to be an easy encounter at my party. Oops...Let's draw up new characters, shall we?:o Of...

    6th level spell for sorcerer

Could you toss out what other spells you have already chosen? The suggestions here are all great, but wuthout knowing where your strength/weaknesses are, and what type of character you're playing, that don't really mean as much.

To Prestige or not to Prestige

Unbalanced is certainly highly subjective, however, If you were to take a 20th Wizard and a Wiz15/Archmage5, I'm pretty certain the Archmage would whip the spanking out of his straight Wizard buddie. Anyone ever do any mage duels for something like this? And if I'm correct, does that not...

    Character for a new player

Is this a 6th level human character? Than 6 feats is right. With six feats, the key would still be to stay away from much mechanic juggering around. Here's a proposal...shuffle...shuffle, let me get my books out... 1. Weapon Focus (Longbow) 2. Point Blank Shot 3. Mounted Archery (To me, this...

To Prestige or not to Prestige

In the language of a UN Resolution: Agreeing with many about the idea of character concept not always needing to take a prestige class... Disagreeing with some about overpower Archmage. You do indeed sacrifice a feat (Skill Focus: Spellcraft) that you would have been unlikely to take in most...

    Character for a new player

IMHO, Go with the ranged specialist fighter. Less mechanics for a newbie to worry about, plus when she fires that bow and dudes start dropping, I would think she would get a sense of accomplishment quickly and get engaged in the game.

    How set-in-stone is your campain?

I also used to play super freeform, allowing the players to do whatever they wanted and allowing them to determine which way the story would go. I ended up scrapping that campaign, because they never seemed to want to go anywhere and it would piss me off. My new campaign is far more structured...

    Character for a new player

I think that you are right on here. When my girlfriend wanted to try out a little roleplaying, I turned her onto the druid. She greatly enjoyed casting spells, but for a first timer the spell list was a little big (although the druid is more managable than some). A sorcerer would have been even...

Familiars improved and otherwise equal good

I'm with you! My evil "I'm going to take over the world!" wizard has an Imp, and he makes a great scout for us. He's usually invisible, can fly away if things get bad, and I got him with 4HD, which allows for an extra feat. I gave him FlyBy Attack, so he delivers touch spells for me and just...

    Wand of Orcus?

If you can't get someone to post the SR number for Orcus in time for your campaign, it should be roughly his HD +11 + whatever extra bonus you feel like giving him. I would say his SR should be around 37-40.
