D&D 5E (2014) How many vegepygmies is too many vegepygmies for a 4th level party?

This same party killed (in one encounter): 4 zombies, 8 skeletons, 1 ogre zombie, 3 4th level cultists, and 1 5th level necromancer. Granted, they had assistance with an extra NPC cleric and paladin - and the encounter took basically 5 hours. And then at the end, the high priest (which didn't...

D&D 5E (2014) How many vegepygmies is too many vegepygmies for a 4th level party?

Just as the title says. Assuming I have 1 chief, and n numbers of vegepygmies, how many would be a completely ridiculous number of that such that I should be ashamed as GM. The rules in the DMG for this seem like complete garbage to me. 10 Vegepygmies would be, according them, "deadly", when...

How can I create a "Groundhog Day" village?

For your consideration: I admit, as my brain started dumping these thoughts down onto paper (ok, Microsoft Word), they took quite a different form. In the end, I think this works. It needs to be polished a little bit, but I think I could work with this. Any and all comments welcome. For those...

How can I create a "Groundhog Day" village?

REALLY interesting! I'll have to think on that one.

How can I create a "Groundhog Day" village?

Perhaps, based on some of the Shidaku's ideas, the party is here to help the one guy complete a bunch of quests he's otherwise incapable of completing on his own. Kind of like how, in Groundhog Day, he goes over and saves the guy's life from choking, and helps the kid from the falling tree...

How can I create a "Groundhog Day" village?

I'm going to stick with 1. It's more manageable. Plus, my PCs are impatient, and will likely just try and leave before the day is over. I need something to keep them here to realize it's in a time loop. Hmm, I was just putting it in there as a "story" in the city. But yea, it could have been...

How can I create a "Groundhog Day" village?

Yes! I like that solution. It's a good idea. You're right - they're coming in via a ship port. I could very easily describe a kind of portal/monument that seems out of place - like it was recently built. They would probably ignore it, but it would be just enough of a hint for them later on.

How can I create a "Groundhog Day" village?

Ultimate goal would be to save the town, I suppose. It's literally intended to be a side-quest in my campaign. They are just stopping in this town because it's the last place along the river before it opens up to the ocean, and they are searching for something else. What happens if the PCs buy...

How can I create a "Groundhog Day" village?

So, at the end of the last campaign, the party was transported via a ship to a small town in search of something. That's where we left it. According to the Wilderlands, this is a smallish city, and is mostly agricultural. Nothing terribly interesting. Here's what I want to do, however. When...

Collaborative Cave #2 - Updated map (see 1st post) - Now doing room assignment

So, a mere 10 years after I started this thread, I need this dungeon. My party is on a quest for the 2nd piece of the rod of seven parts, and similar to the actual boxed set, I'm placing the 2nd piece in an Aboleth's lair (just using this dungeon instead of the one in the boxed set). So, I've...

    D&D 5E (2014) Going for 3d6 instead of d20

Agreed. The first thing I thought of when reading the OP was "I think 2d10 would be easier to convert". So yea, 2d10. Still keeps everything 20-based, so conversions would be easier, and gives you some bell curve.

D&D 5E (2014) What AC would you give an ogre zombie covered in tower shields?

Fair enough. The cultists referred to it as "The Wall" and my intention was that it was literally just an ogre zombie to which the cultists had fashioned about a half a dozen shields to it, such that it basically "walls" off a 10' hallway. The creature does have enough mobility with at least one...

D&D 5E (2014) What AC would you give an ogre zombie covered in tower shields?

Well that certainly makes no sense, whatsoever!

D&D 5E (2014) What AC would you give an ogre zombie covered in tower shields?

You know, hypothetically speaking, of course. Early on, my party encountered "The Wall" and I assigned it AC 20, which seemed reasonable. Knowing what I know about 5th edition now, that probably seems excessive, since that's the same AC an Iron Golem has. So what AC should I give it? They...

    Meet a Professional Game Master

Years ago when I lived in Kansas City, I was approached by someone (through ENWorld) to run a game for a small company near Lawrence, KS (home of Kansas University). This company was a small company with less than a dozen employees, and when asked what kind of team-building thing the company...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's make some magic items

Ball and Chain Bracelet Wondrous Item, rare This unclasped bracelet appears to be nothing more than an ordinary iron band. When fastened around something, however, it materializes a very strong chain with magically dense lead ball attached at the other end. This ball (and the chain attached to...

    Caverns of Thracia

Saw some mention of this recently, and so I decided to give it another look. I had kind of glanced through it in the past, and something about it struck me as a bit hokey. After a good sit-down read through the first dozen or so pages, I'm convinced I was wrong, and it actually looks pretty...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's make some magic items

Toph's Ridiculous Bag of Rose Petals Wondrous Item, very rare The fine-looking velvet bag radiates strong conjuration magic. When the drawstring is opened, the contents of finely perfumed rose petals is revealed. If sprinkled on the ground, the rose petals last for about 15 seconds, then...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's make some magic items

I got bored today, and decided the DMG needed some more magic items. So I made some. If everyone adds a magic item, we'll have a ton of them. So, get creative! Teetotaler’s Ring Ring, Uncommon This ring prevents the wearer from ever getting inebriated. While there are physical limitations to...
