D&D 5E (2014) fifth edition release schedule ... cart before the horse?

What is the problem with the math not being exactly as the guidelines say? I mean if a typo gives an orc 280 hp instead of 28, sure. But +5 instead of +6? Isn't it more interesting if it is a good monster or not? What strength or wisdom it gets is up to whoever makes it anyhow.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk?

Pretty please! And build it on From the Ashes, and some of the work in Dragon by Erik Mona et. al.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ghouls and Ghasts

Precisely. Reasonably some monsters are better suited to using their weapons offensively - a panther is better at attack than a moose, despite similar strength. It is easier to hit with claws than with a bite, if you're a humanoid. There are no hard rules for what value an attack has, no...

D&D 5E (2014) Camping is dangerous (how can it be made safer?)

Good points, Zarathustran. Guard dogs. Love that. I've always let shouting wake the others automatically. I have let them make Perception rolls to see how fast it got them up.

Always check with your ranger first - the area might be teeming with killer rabbits.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ghouls and Ghasts

The poor suckers took the ghoul/ghast class and realised too late, post mortem actually, that they only get one single weapon proficiency. They said the class stinks.

D&D 5E (2014) Hex maps and dungeons and dragons.

Jeebus, man, it's interesting to see that this point interests you so much, and your knowledge of how inches and standards are used in countries where they are not, and have not for well over a hundred years. I actually tried getting paper with inch squares back in the day, but could not find...

D&D 5E (2014) fifth edition release schedule ... cart before the horse?

Why would you pay 30 bucks for Hoard? The Hoard scenario is 1.5 times as long as Phandelver, and you do not get any dice, handy rules booklet or sturdy box. And it isn't as good.

D&D 5E (2014) fifth edition release schedule ... cart before the horse?

The starter set is meant not as just a starter set, but also as a very good adventure. Phandelver is 2/3 as many pages as Hoard, and better in my opinion. Uhm.... I don't know what to say about that. Do you require the PCs to be product tested beforehand as well? This game is all about...

D&D 5E (2014) Hex maps and dungeons and dragons.

Minifigs fit nicely on a 2cm grid I can tell you :) 28mm? 30mm? What minis were those? None that we had at the time. I think you are missing the point - whyever would we stick to inch grids when inches just was a weird foreign measurement? We normally translated all distances into something...

D&D 5E (2014) Hex maps and dungeons and dragons.

Yes, but not the grid. ;) Why would you make a grid using weird foreign measurements? Nevermind where you'd buy one. Our DM, Oldtimer, might have made it in inches, but considering how hard it was (is) to find rulers with inches I don't see why. Can't remember anything about recommended grid...

:D You 'mericans take so many weird things for granted with your quaint measuring systems.

D&D 5E (2014) fifth edition release schedule ... cart before the horse?

It has been done, and is being done right now, all over the place. I don't see why it should be impossible just because not all succeed. But it needs someone willing to do it, which is easier in small press, or OoP, games.

D&D 5E (2014) Phandelver as Plot Point Campaign (Mild Spoilers)

I've long thought that the adventure path style campaigns, Paizo or otherwise, are boring as they leave no room to do anything else. I love the SW plot point campaigns, and would love to see something similar. Including all the abundant scenario ideas given to fleshen it out. One of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Hex maps and dungeons and dragons.

For me square grids is OSR. I met them the first time I played (AD&D1). 2cm (or was it 2.5cm? can't recall) grid paper mounted on a board with a plastic cover, drawn with water soluble OH pens. Basically the same as I use today.

D&D 5E (2014) I think we can safely say that 5E is a success, but will it lead to a new Golden Era?

We're having dire troubles getting more PHBs from our distributor.

D&D 5E (2014) fifth edition release schedule ... cart before the horse?

A Dungeon magazine edited by someone on lease from Wizards would be good. Or perhaps a fan made magazine. Just somewhere to get scenarios and stuff that has passed through some sort of review.

    D&D 5E (2014) Holy crap, that's cool

Yeah. I loved seeing that one back! Fond memories of it, and it makes ghosts awesomely terrifying. Though I no longer endorse my tactic from long ago munchkin days. Subduing a young wyrmling white dragon and then throwing it in to look at the ghost. :D The age categories whizzed by!

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you RETURNING to D&D

Didn't really leave, I suppose. (Well, I had a long hiatus of D&D between AD&D1 and 3e, more or less, playing other games. Played tons of 3e.) Stopped DMing during 4e as it didn't give me what I wanted, and that at a great expense. Played mostly miniature games, but played in some RPGs...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I the Only One Not 100% Impressed with the Monster Manual?

The descriptions of the monsters are too short. Flavourful, but short. 3e had longer, for the most part, and 2e had a lot of text to make them interesting. (Not all of them were good, naturally, but so are not all in the 5e MM either.)
