D&D 5E (2014) Do you like the simplicity of 5E monsters?

At long last I can (again) concentrate on what the critters do, their tactics and how to make them memorable - and not just how to get the best use of their kewl abilities.

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic Equipment Complaints

I think I'll stick to a shorter reply this time: Why is there a mass production line for ball bearings in a quasi-mediaeval world? What sort of economy is there in those things? [Edit] Never mind mass production of lead shot. In a world with no firearms. (And BB shot is not, by far...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic Equipment Complaints

Apart from building a 200 feet tall tower, making a fine copper mesh, and easily melting lead on top of said construction. It could probably be done, but just barely and at great cost. You also need the metallurgical know how to figure out how fast the lead cools in order to get the details...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic Equipment Complaints

And that isn't a modernish industrial manufacturing method? And lead balls have other problems, such as softness. And they're not ball bearings (nor can they be used as). In 3e and 4e (I think) the same function was filled by throwing marbles. Still a bit tricky to manage, technologically, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic Equipment Complaints

I had not realised it was so powerful! Paying someone to cast a first level spell costs 10-50 gp, according to the Basic rules. That means that it summons at least 10 000 ball bearings to be economically viable. (Provided there's a market for the other 9 000 balls.) Wasn't there a story...

I recommend using a rare earth magnet on a telescoping pole*. 25gp in select stores. * a.k.a. Rod of Modron control.

That's it! Thank you, Ari. We need a good mnemonic for that sort of thing.

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic Equipment Complaints

All that to give some pesky adventurer's a chance to inflict a DC 10 reflex save on some poor goblins for the cost of half a shovel? Wow! ;) Your campaign seems a tad more high magic than mine tend to be. What's wrong with old-fashioned mud from the quasielemental* plane of ooze? That ought...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic Equipment Complaints

Perhaps I need to be more precise: What the blazing torches do you use ball bearings for in a quasi-mediaeval setting? They're pretty hard to make. (And important part of the industrial revolution, for that reason.) (In particular if they are to do much use, which requires them to of very hard...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic Equipment Complaints

Ball bearings? Ball bearings? 1000 (sic!) ball bearings for 1gp? How do you even make ball bearings en masse without industrial manufacturing technology? And what do you use them for?

Legends & Lore: Experience Points and Levels

Indeed. It would be better to give only nominal XP, or none, for blood. And then some individual goals giving XP and we're getting somewhere.

    Goodman Games solicits input

I don't think that systemless modules would sell we. They'd only really appeal to the old school crowd, I think, and that is hardly enough for Goodman. 4e is the biggest, and making a module for 4e means that you can just supply 3e stats and it works. A 3e module does not really convert well...

    PHB prices on Amazon

Noble Knight has one in Excellent+ condition for $44, and a Fair- for $25. Noble Knight is generally never cheap on their used goods, but instead very reliable.

It said that the 3.5 PHB is out of print, while the 4th ed is still in print.

    Why did you subscribe?

This sounds exactly like what I intended to write - except that I'm not on VA Disability, but on a general Swedish disability payment. (And I'm only 42, but on the other hand I have played D&D since I was twelve.)

    Arcane POwer Play

I'm impressed with the Muse Sprite familiars ability to carry messages. Within the usual 20 squares it is allowed to move, of course. :)

In case you didn't know: The WotC community is FREE

If they didn't have that clause someone could claim to have the right to what might have started as speculation about future WotC products. All the speculation going around sometimes gets it right, by pure chance. It's not a clause to steal your ideas. Ideas are cheap - developing them is...
