    GM Notes: Handwritten or Typed?

I type out the adventure, and write notes in the margins in pencil or pen, depending on what is needed. I keep adventure notes on a sheet with a pen to transpose later to the computer.

What Class are you? Fun tool from WOTC promoting PHB II

Gee... from a deranged Bard to a Ranger... there's a switch (or maybe not, considering my irl character's background)

    Inspiration? Where are you?

At the risk of sounding like the smart alec that my grup knows me to be, the answer to your question would be a "Yes" answer. I get my inspiration from almost anywhere. Some examples would be: 1) After watching the enwest version of Night of the Living Dead, or Dawn of the Dead, or whatever it...

What was your character's best starting stat?

I had a human fighter (1ed) that had 18/07. There were also a couple of straight 18's along the way.

20 levels in 3 months? NOT THIS TIME!

My players have always gotten, on average, a level about every/every other mission. And since the missions can take 3 or 4 sessions.... As long as my players are having fun, and the game doesn't seem too limiting or dull, they never ask about their advancement.

    Home made game systems

I designed a couple of gaming systems.... one for "in-house" and the other for publication... and as soon as I am happy with it, it will be. The first one had stats like: Strength, Constitution, Dexterity and BS (not hard to figure out). Hit points were your Con, to hit was your STR (or Dex)...

D&D General What (in)famous D&D adventure sites exist in your homebrew?

In my current "homebrew", I have incorporated: Temple of Elemental Evil Giants Series Drow Series Demonweb The next "campaign" I am going to be running is Castle Greyhawk. The next reason I am doing so is my current group is made up entirely of 3.x players. When I started talking about the...

Are you a Player or GM?

In my last group, there were 4 of us that were experienced players and DM's and several kids and other noobs who wre learning the game. So we all DM'ed by committee. One of us would actually be the keeper of the secrets, while the others would help the new players and act as assistant DM's in...

    Two Dozen Nasty DM Tricks

Raynard, my brother, if I ever start to irritate you... just, please, let me know and I will crawl away quietly... you are much too devious to mess with. This is a great list that will have my characters cursing the day you ever learned to write.

    This is why I game

There are actually two things that keep me interested in the game every time I stop to actually think about it... and both happened with the same group. 1) I rolled up a bard (not a huge thing) and the DM- realzing my acting ability and my love of "role-playing" during the game- asked me to...

Remembering Gary Gygax, One year later

I cannot echo this sentiment too loudly, or to many times.... I started writing when I was but a small child (actually, right about the time our beloved mentor was unleashing his thoughts upon the world). I started playing first edition in October of 1978, and by Christmas that year was writing...

Describe your vision of Gamma World where you live

It has been a while since I have read the GW rules, so the inhabitants are not something I could speak of intelligently; however, I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania coal county, so there would be many caves and mines to have been overrun. I also live not too far from Philadelphia and...

    Changeover Poll

I didn't read all 15 pages of responses, so someone has more than likely mentioned this response; however, when 4ed came out, I went to my local B&N and sat there reading the Players Handboook. As soon as I turned the final page, I walked up to the counter, handed the book to the cashier (who...

When was YOUR Golden Age of Gaming?

My "Golden Age" would have to be from '78 through to the beginning of 2ed. I started playing in 1978, and was able to play all of the old modules that are still discussed and spoken of in reverent tones: Tomb of Horrors, Giant Series, Slaver Series, Ghost Tower of Inverness, Dungeonland, and so...

Everyone, Tell us about your games, please!

1.) How many players in your group? I'm not sure at the moment... probably 6-8 2.) Do you DM? I am going to be the DM 3.) Do other people in the group DM, and how many? I doubt it at this point 4.) What's the Male/Female composition of the group? Not sure, yet... I am sure it will be mostly...

What classes did you play, which did you like?

Since 1978, I've played just about every base class available. My favorites to play through all of the editions were: Paladin, FIghter, Cleric, Mage (in that order), and I particularly liked the Bard in 3.x

Random ideas you never saw through

I started working on a system whereby mages could cast spells of a level higher than they were normally allowed to (nothing too huge, max of 2-3 levels higher) by having them pay constitution points. The higher the spell, the more constitution taken from them, with the resulting Raistlin-type...

Are kids playing tabletop D&D these days?

There was actually a D&D after school group at the local middle school last year. This school year, it was cancelled because of other school obligations; however, I am looking into restarting it within the next month. At the school last year, we had 15 kids interested. The group that I used to...

    What's your favorite gaming story?

My current group had not been together that long, and were only starting their 3rd or 4th adventure together. We had: Human Bard Halfling Thief Dwarven Barbarian Cleric Elven Mage (wizard, whatever) Half-orc Fighter Human Fighter Well, in a bar, the halfling thief started a bar brawl, and while...
