    D&D 5E (2014) Monks Suck

Agree that monks are fragile compared to Fighter, Paladin, Barbarian. That said to the main concerns. IMHO (ONLY) Martial Arts damage die is low at early levels and is useful only on the flurry. At later levels, you can do more damage than anyone else with unarmed strike or with a monk weapon...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

I read a lot of interest from people. I would be interested in a Dark Sun book definitely. I read a lot of, 'I hope they don't ruin it with x.' Most of that can be easily resolved with 'don't use that part in your game.' Your players just never happen to encounter the thing that bothers you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Scary/Creepy encounters

Straight from our game. Satyr villain charms party members with his pipes. Approaches female PC. Spiming his finger around in the air. Female PC turns dancing in a daze so the satyr is behind her. Female PC 'I don't like where this is going DM.' Satyr points down. Female PC 'I don't like where...

D&D 5E (2014) What "attack"-oriented cantrips do you like the most?

Agree that Shillelagh ought to be there. It's one of the few opportunities to use an unusual ability as an attack stat. Warlock Hexblade can do Charisma, Shillelagh can use Wisdom with a quarterstaff or club, but there's not a lot else. Some builds that are MAD can benefit from these.

D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorm - stories to tell with WotC's new position on various folk (fka "race")

The town of Eregos 'Tolerated' in orcish has a heavy orc and half orc population. It is about to be attacked by orc raiders who will theaten the kingdom, but the cavalry isn't coming because fighting to defend non-humans is not popular in the capital. The PCs are hired by the local magistrate to...

D&D 5E (2014) What "attack"-oriented cantrips do you like the most?

Eldritch Blast is so good that many in my game have considered taking Magic Initiate feat to get it. Damage ranged and it scales batter than maybe anything else. Greenflame blade uses a melee attack so you can sneak attack or smite with it. I've always been confised as to the attraction to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Avernus Any Good?

I thought it was a worthwhile book (Avernus). That said, our group is usually around 4-5 but has sometimes been larger. Always worthwhile to have another PHB around so people can look stuff up without (I dream) slowing the game down.

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] My Word Is My Sword: The Paladin Guide

The Sage Advise column on p10 of the v1.14 PDF says Improved Divine Smite still only works with a melee attack.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is there a limit to falling damage?

This is a proud nail of mine. For a truly deadly fall, I would agree that a simple, 'It looks suicidal' would suffice, meaning that RAW 'This is more than just a fall.' In my game, I may do that and either have the fall do max damage and/or rule that because of the severity of the fall or what...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

Having played the 3e book with many players, I didn't encounter any content that players found insensitive including the Oriental Adventures name (though I don't think it was a great title). That said, Wizards isn't setting out to offend their customer base, they want to print books that will...

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

The 3rd edition book Oriental Adventures added a lot of fun to our game. I'd like to see it's counterpart in 5e. It doesn't have to reflect real world cultures accurately because its a game setting in a magical fantasy world not a historical setting. If you want a campaign in historically...

    D&D 5E (2014) Worst Classes Level 1.

I was disappointed with the monk that I made at lvl 1 but I don't think it was level 1's fault. At higher levels he continued to struggle to pull his weight against enemies in combat. I enjoyed some features but he was just fragile. The warlock, I've really liked even at low levels. If you want...

D&D 5E (2014) What does it mean that a deity can have a different rank on a different world?

I think as the metagaming DM, it's code for. If in your world a deity is more or less important, just make it the way you want it to be. If your game takes place on a world ruled by the goblins, feel free to give Maglubiyet or Vaprak a central role.

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

I didn't the mechanic as presented except that it may slow play down. It wasn't complicated. My thought was that the sub-classes could be options for several classes, but new classes would be nice, and they could have feats to customize if they wanted just like Martial Adept and Arcane Intiate do.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Neil Gaiman Wrong?

There's no easy way for one foot soldier to destroy a tank either. The dragon is 800 years old for a reason, and his very high AC, damage, resistance and saves make it hard to affect him. By the time players are 17th level or higher though, they are wielding spells and powers that make them a...

That was done in 3e Oriental Adventures with the Maho Tsukai. Big fun.

    D&D 5E (2014) Help with a Barbarian

I played a 5E barbarian to 20th. Berserker. I like the Bear totem too though. I went high Con from the start I actually prioritized it above strength. When you get to it, consider the Durable feat. By 20th I had 24 con then got an epic boon for 26. Hit dice with a d12+7 and the lowest I could...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dim Light question

Use a hooded lantern or a caster could create a spell say as a thought Lvl 1, Dim lights. Creates Dim light or reduces ambient non-magical light to dim light in a 20' radius for up to one hour without concentration.

D&D 5E (2014) Druid that fights in animal form

Remember that in Wild Shape your game statistics are replaced by that of the form that you take except con, wis and Int. Unarmored Defense is not necesarily going to help in Wildshape. RAW you retain class features and so your AC is set as Unarmored defense describes but it doesn't stack with...

D&D 5E (2014) Cleric with Warlock Spell List - Good, Bad, Indifferent?

In my experience players use the Arcane initiate feat heavily for Warlock. Usually to get Eldritch Blast. If you don't have a ranged option in combat, that may be worth while. Less common is to use it for Wizard to get a familiar. A cleric with a familiar could have some interesting options.
