    Gamma World Existentialism

Hi Geoff, I'm wondering what the original intention of the development crew was regarding the breakdown of materials into 2 books -- IOW, if they weren't intended as a player's book and a GM's book then what were they intended as? Cheers, KoOS

    D20 Conversion of WW's Mage?

The Aeon games (Adventure!, Aberrant and Trinity) will be released by Sword & Sorcery Studios as separate hardback books. They will be d20 books based on 3.5 (not d20 Modern, not M&M) and using their own proprietary systems for psionics, superpowers, etc. I don't think any of these books would...

    Random thoughts on Gamma World

I think the important distinction here is between nuclear war and, to borrow a phrase from Crimson Tide, nuclear holocaust. The probability of a full nuclear exchange that would destroy civilization as we know it is remote, because we no longer have a situation where two big players are facing...

    Has enthusiasm died?

Actually, Jonathan Tweet did Omega World. As for the rest of it, I think that the heavy emphasis on fantasy elements in the d20M corebook was a marketing-driven error that has hurt the game, but we can to agree to disagree on that. KoOS

    Questions about D20 Future

Because it would forestall the "is it a supplement? is it standalone?" round of queries that always comes up when d20 Future is mentioned. KoOS

    Questions about D20 Future

Wizards' staff have previously stated that d20 Future is a supplement to d20 Modern. If this has changed, I wish Wizards would confirm it. KoOS

    Has enthusiasm died?

It's nonetheless a limitation for a game that purports to be useful for any modern action-adventure concept. The people who get upset when d20M gets referred to as "D&D Modern" should accept that it's Wizards' fault this perception exists. I love d20M, it's a fantastic game design IMO but it...

    Has enthusiasm died?

Yeah, that must be why games like Spycraft and movies like The Matrix are such commercial failures. There's more of a proven market for modern+superscience than there is for modern+Tolkeinesque fantasy. KoOS Edit: What's with the weird characters and such? Finally got the...

    Has enthusiasm died?

I have to disagree. Superscience is no more or less relevant to a modern-era game than is magic or psionics. It comes down to preference, not objective fact, and by ignoring superscience in favour of D&D-esque fantasy Wizards ignored the preferences of a certain portion of the market. KoOS

WOTC D20 Modern vs AEG Spycraft

I think that's a a consequence of character POV rather than a wholly different setting. In Shadow Chasers you're looking at the setting from the POV of characters outside the supernatural "in crowd" whereas in Urban Arcana the characters are part of the magical community. It's like Buffy and...

WOTC D20 Modern vs AEG Spycraft

And this IMO is the one area where Spycraft falls down. There's no way that a character with a skill ranks cap of 4 and a BAB of +1 should be considered "highly trained" by any intelligence agency other than the Keystone Kops, but that's exactly what Spycraft tells you in that annoying "you can...

Will Modern need a revision too?

I thought he was talking about the art selection, which is somewhat skewed towards an Urban Arcana-style modern fantasy theme. I don't have too much of a problem with it, but I can see where it might be offputting to some people. KoOS

    Urban Arcana

Well, the problem is that you keep contradicting yourself. Several times. Why do you think the centre character on the Menace Manual cover (I'm all but certain it's Adam Swift, but let's not assume so for the moment) is anything other than white? I'm honestly curious. As for the elf vs drow...

    Urban Arcana

I do not believe that WotC made a specific choice to exclude white males from that spot. It's hard to accurately judge intent from such a small sample size, and easy (though not necessarily correct) to assume that you're seeing bias because you're actively looking for it. I don't think...

    Why the "shadow"

Because it's a convenient way to introduce all the fantasy elements and still have a campaign that could, theoretically, take place in the world as we know it -- stuff that "maybe could have happened" such as urban legends and the like. By comparison, stuff like Dark Inheritance, Shadowrun, or...

[Polyhedron] The Bimonthly "What's the Next Minigame?" Thread

Just wanted to say that I thought the article was great! Interesting characters, good artwork (mostly) and very adaptable for a number of different uses by enterprising GMs. Kudos! KoOS

    D20 Modern Vs. Spycraft

It's not anal at all, it's factual. They are separate products and IMO your wording was disingenuous. If we're going to use external stuff, I could dig up all kinds of alternate D20 magic systems and drop those into D20M with little to moderate effort but I'm comparing the core products for...
