Is CoCd20 subject to the OGL?

Chaosium has some of the best campaigns ever published. Convert those! None of the are verry hevy on system, nor should they be. That's not what they are about. The Masks of Nyarlathotep: this is a must play! It's right up there with the original Dragonlace campaign and The enemy within.

    My Foundry Order Experience

This really saddens me. Foundry is the big name in historical miniatures. I have loads or their pirates and ancient Greeks. Never had to wait long for an order to arrive and regularaly received extra stuff: preview figures, limited editions, ... But apparantly they've been having some problems...

    WOTC stores

WOTC-stores...why don't we have those in Europe. 50% off sales indeed! The first Magic-cards were printed less than an hours drive away from where I now live. The WotC European HQ is a 20 minute drive I guess. And I still haven't seen a real live copy of Masters of the Wild yet. (Those magic...

How do I make my CoC game SCARY?

Well, as I pointed out in another CoC thread, Lovecraft is not BOO scary, but WOOHOO scary. Work a lot with suggestion. Don't throw a lot of monsters around or have hordes of cultists assault your players. But suggest you might do it. Suggest they might be followed. Suggest it might be something...

    CoC d20: convince me

Throwing a shoggoth... Now there's an interesting concept. How large an area do you think it would spread out onto? Maybe it would be an interesting war-machine when youre besieging a city!

    CoC d20: convince me

Hm, kind of what I thought. Would investigators have a higher survivability rate? While CoC in the Lovecraftian style shouldn't be about action, some essential encounters contain a certain amount of mundane physical danger (a mad club wielding cultist, his dog, my mother-in-law, to name but a...

    CoC d20: convince me

First of: I'm a d20 fan. But: I don't feel that liking this system is enough for me to buy the book. I already have the Chaosium version. I like d20 better, but I don't feel that "system" has any bearing on a game like CoC. I've had great games using the original. What makes d20 CoC so great...

First impressions of D20 Call of Cthulu

Yep, and thats dealt with in the Masks of Nyarlathotep campaign. The premise of that campaign is the instability in the mythos, i.e. Lovecrafts accounts. That instability led to the rise of fascist regimes, economic instability, intolerance, holocausts, nuclear bombs,... and a general feeling of...

    [WoT] How's it doing?

Maybe it's to get people started with WoT now that Prophesies of the Dragon is comming. And as to more books: the novels are great source material and there's a book on the series: Robert Jordan's world of the Wheel of Time. I feel it's a great setting and a great game that deserves more support.

    AEG: War

You're right: the average PC can do a hell of a lot more than the average character in a wargame. There is a difference in scale that is too great. You can't manage a wargame with the level of detail that a RPG offers. So I think that a system for running mass battles should focus on the PC's...

    WAR, HUH GOOD GOD Y'ALL!

Point well taken. But I don't believe this would happen. If this were a reality, I don't believe you would find many soldiers to go to war. Wars would be waged between mages and heroes. (Whic is in and of itself an interesting concept to introduce in a fantasy world.) But if you look at the...

    AEG: War

OK, but what would you want from such a system? Would you want a set of table top wargame rules that are compatible with existing d20 mechanics and let you import your PC into the battle? An important element would be to know how many men are in a certain unit and what formation they are in...

    WAR, HUH GOOD GOD Y'ALL!

I think you're right to say that a fantasy setting would change the way wars are waged. But the problem with designing a system to simulate large scale fantasy battles is that no tow settings are the same. High magic worlds might have units of spellcasters running around on the battle field. Low...

    AEG: War

Dareoon, 1. This is a fair point you raise. I play wargames (Hordes of the Things, Warhammer, Might of Arms, DBA,...)Most people I game with do. So we tend to take it as a matter of fact that you can run a wargame within a Role Playing game. If you have no interest in playing these games aside...

    Heroic tagline wanted

Try something with duty in it, seems to me that would be one of the most important things for a medieval knight, next to honour. "Honour through duty, duty to serve." Of course you only get to use this line in the presence of a damsel or your liege lord.

    D&D Session Without Combat

Combat is exciting. I think it is te factor of uncertainty that makes it exciting. After all: you still have to roll the dice... But remember: using skills also makes PC have to make their rolls... Info gathering, crafting, sneaking,... can be every bit as exciting as a walk down Monster Manual...

    AEG: War

Why wait for a mass combat system. There are dozens of table top wargames out there. Just pick one to resolve your battles. If you think about the scale of an average battle, you will realise that an individuals actions won't ammount to much. I resolve the main battle this (abstract) way and I...

    Cthulhu D20 -- Abdul Alhazred

Most Lovecraftian, non-cultist, characters would be low level. I hope they found a way to increase skills without boosting levels or powers. That's the strength of the BRP system Chaosium uses. I hope Monte found a way to adapt the d20 system to add a greater emphasis on skills. I gues we'll...
