    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

Scott, you are on fire! I am really enjoying these great responses from you. I'm going to push my luck and ask you about the halo effect you mentioned in your first post. When you develop a marketing campaign, how do you expand that halo effect? I'm thinking of the idea that I've sucked my...

    DDM: Chicks not in chainmail

Aside from the excellent point that there are 510 potential combinations (although I bet they'll focus on the "optimized" combos first (like hafling rogues)), remember that a tremendous variety of miniatures are available in the broader market. If the gripe is about WotC, well, I've got...

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

Scott thanks for posting and expanding on the original commentary. You mentioned the celebrity buzz that gets generated by engaging Penny Arcade and Wil Weaton. Could you tell us if there are any plans to engage other celebrities as part of the marketing campaign? Also, has there been any...

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

Posts like this one are the reason I come here. This was well done and I am going to try these tips in my own game.

D&D accused of being satans game.

*yawn* It's been 20 years since I came face-to-face with this kind of thing. It's best to forget all about it and let the controversy die quietly.

    The iPhone Will Kill D&D

I'm an engineer also. CAD is pervasive, expansive, and highly effective. But it expands my capability, and does not replace it. Likewise, computer enhancement doesn't have to kill table-top gaming. Instead the game will branch out into even more forms than it takes now. Even innovative new...

    I support the OP's message.

Getting away from "Daily" and "Milestone"

I like this. It doesn't tax players to use their dailies normally, but it does give them a simple way to recover their favorite moves. I'm going to have to try this out.

Getting away from "Daily" and "Milestone"

Actually, Falling Icicle had it right, i WAS suggesting that you spend a healing surge to cast it...BUT...I think the idea of spending a healing surge to recover a spent daily might be better. Thoughts?

Getting away from "Daily" and "Milestone"

@ Nytmare: my players often comment on having extra surges AND unused dailies, so I think this will encourage them to use them. My players are more like Timba in this regard. @Sadrick: My very first (off-forum) suggesting involved a power point system. My players did not like keeping track of...

    Fiction - Black Crusade

I don't know anything about making a graphic novel, but having a great story has got to be half the challenge, right? Well, regardless, I look forward to seeing the next chapter. It's pretty much the only fun reading I can squeeze into my schedule right now.

Question for Mike Mearls, should you happen by...

Mike, if you do a design and development article on the expertise feats, would you (please) include some comments about the character stat array that the game math is designed around, and the expected hit rate related to that?

Getting away from "Daily" and "Milestone"

Not a major problem. The group runs smoothly even without tweaking. I'm not really looking to justify the change as much as I'm looking for folks to point out the consequences of the change - second and third order effects... So far I've got: 1) One consequence of this house rule is that the...

Getting away from "Daily" and "Milestone"

Agreed. In my campaign, there tends to be 1-2 encounter a day during exploration and travelling, then 3-4 combats together. I like to keep the spectre of death nearby, though

Getting away from "Daily" and "Milestone"

No, I mean all daily powers, magic item or character, use healing surges. I want to get away from "time" as the basis for the daily powers. I'm ok with players using dailies more. That's what I want. The sacrifice is that they have to spend healing surges to use them every time, and if they...

Getting away from "Daily" and "Milestone"

Dailies/Milestones/Action Points together have not worked very well with my group. Players are reluctant to use their daily powers (in case they need it for the big fight) and they don't like keeping track of action points or milestones. also, everyone uses the DDi charbuilder, so no one wants...

    Fiction - Black Crusade

I'm enjoying this immensely, but I wouldn't buy a hardcopy after reading it UNLESS it was in a new format...like a graphic novel. (In other words, please do a graphic novel of this so I can buy it...)

    How do I throw people?

There is a set of magic gloves called "gloves of giantkind" (I think that's the name) that provides a great example of an encounter power to throw an opponent
