I bet they ditch the elemental power source entirely. I think we'll see the divine classes use elemental mantles or the SKs as their source for divne abilities. Don't forget "everything is core" is a central conceit of the edition

$125,000 in fines for D&D pirates? Help me do the math...

@evilref: I think I agree with everthing you've said. And it seems to coincide with my point of view, that companies that want to protect their IP could do so better by stinging many downloaders lightly (cost of good + legal fees for each pirate). So that, if I download alot of material, I...

$125,000 in fines for D&D pirates? Help me do the math...

It only takes one person to make one copy of a file, so until the level of deterrence is 100%, it doesn't matter much. In the case of that individual, multiple companies suing for the cost of each book that he made available, plus legal fees, should be sufficientl.

$125,000 in fines for D&D pirates? Help me do the math...

Indeed these are the salient questions, and think they are the root of the ongoing arguments about piracy. I the nature of the pirated media (pdf in this case) is the main difficulty. Personally, if someone got a $125,000 judgement against me, that would ruin me, financially, because I make...

I'm going to try and throw some support here. As a DM, I've allowed a player to port their large-sized half giant to 4E, and I've even allowed her to carry large weapons. It really has not been a problem at all. The player has even tweaked the character to be optimized for wading into the...

I'm going to assume this is not rhetorical. You are correct. And I'll take it a step further: I went through my Dark Sun stuff this weekend to remember how the AD&D setting was, and I realized that there wasn't very much in the setting that would need a tweak from 4e. The setting did not...

Conjecture and Prognostication concerning "The Rouse"

I have one last thing to note on the idea of a non-compete for the Rouse, then I'll drop it. The Rouse is in marketing, so a non-compete clause (as has been suggested here) has to reasonably protect WotC's business interest. It seems to me that a non-compete clause would only be enforceable on...

Conjecture and Prognostication concerning "The Rouse"

I'm not challenging the existence of these agreements (NDA's and non-competes). I'm well aware of them, professionally (not a lawyer). Your response is a little condescending. At least, that's how I read it. I know that Umbran is correct in his statement that non-compete causes have to be very...

    How do you pronounce 'melee?'

I say this only with good humor, but with a dash of truth: Maine is not part of appalachia.

Conjecture and Prognostication concerning "The Rouse"

A couple things here: 1) I doubt the existence of an NDA or a non-compete agreement. WotC is not the kind of company with valuable trade secrets to protect, and I believe there's a history of former employees starting their own businesses or working for other gaming companies already. Am I...

Do you lament the lack of third-party or fan material?

Agreed. Still, one of the surviving challengers may be creative enough to find a way to compete directly with WotC on D&D with 4E material. No matter how wide the moat is, Wizards could still be vulnerable to an innovator.

I love DMing, but I like playing too! :(

I live with the OP's problem. But I've imposed DMing on my other players. Unfortunately (please excuse the apparent egotism), they are not as experienced as DMs, so I enjoy my player time less than they do when I DM.

Do you lament the lack of third-party or fan material?

I'm already overwhelmed by the volume of character choices from WotC, so I don't want any more of those. Adventures...I only borrow from others to flesh out my own stuff, so I don't need much more than wizards is offering. Monsters: thanks to Monster builder, inventing my own monsters is easy...

I see your point. The original DS half giant were defined by their large size and great strength and dull wits. They could play a cleric, fighter, gladiator, psionicist, or ranger. Their half-human side made them communicative and cooperative, communal and adaptive. Part of their alignment could...

I'm really disappointed that there's been word on half-giants in the setting as a charachter race. Goliaths just don't cut it.

    Has Scott's replacement been announced?

The US custom is two-weeks notice for employees to employers. Obviously, the deviation from expected behavior varies by individual circumstances and corporate policies. As far as having a new Brand Manager ready to go, At the very least, if Scott had any subordinates, I expect one of them has...

Grand List of iPhone Apps for D&D Gaming

I speculate that the number of independent app developers and new apps is growing faster than apple's review staff, and that's causing delays.
