    Warforged ECL 0???? Yeah right!!!!

Poison Immunity is a significant advantage but it's hardly a deal-breaker unless the majority of your traps are poison based. Even then unless your entire party is warforged the immunity of 2 PCs really doesn't help the other PCs in the event of a gas based poison. Further this advantage with...

AC 56 at level 6! You too can do it!

Several people indicated that while 56 ac is possible at that level it requires very specialized builds and combos that are in no way easy to replicate. A specific build + spell combo that the average game or player can't replicate is in fact anything but easy. It requires that someone build...

Did you use UA in your 1E games?

I concur if balance between classes was intended (uncertain at best) then it seems that the random nature of ability score determination was the primary method for keeping some of the "unbalanced" classes from becoming dominant. Given the default assumption of 3d6 in order it was often very...

Giant-hurled boulders: Should they be ranged touch attacks?

From a single giant the boulder stone is fairly unimpressive with the exception of base range (180' vs 110' for a composite longbow). However keep in mind that it's primarily designed to be an initial long range weakening barrage. In mountains a giant can hang back a handful of rounds before...

Good d20 resource for demon and element bound gear?

I think you could also graft some of the demon possession rules from BoVD relatively effectively. Maybe give the item the ability to grant spell like abilities of the bound creature if wielder agrees to a pact of sorts.

Is There A Spell That Makes You Colossal Size?

Hrmm the potential power boost for a fighter with a colossal greatsword should make most DMs think very carefully before incorporating an item like this.

Detect Evil as a Lie Detector??

With the possible exceptions of some outsiders (and maybe paladins) alignments don't seem to be absolute. Thus most lawful creatures can and will lie on occasion (if they do this to excess it might warrant a shift towards chaos on the law-chaos axis). Thus a devil might lie (or at least commit...

How Do Metamagic Rods Work For Preparation Spellcasters?

I see where the poster has a valid point from a game balance standpoint ie that the sorceror gains two benefits the metamagic without a higher spell slot and that he is able to ignore the standard spontaneous casting metamagic requires 1 full round. Honestly though I'm not that opposed to...

Help with the design of a thespian, entertainer & acrobat.

Yep! So it would require a second level spell slot and a full round action to cast a simple sleep spell :p No sir that wouldn't be a major power loss ;)

Ranger combat style, 2-weapon: usable with staff?

IIRC it works with all double weapons. I'm not sure whether it would work with a Ranger using a weapon and spiked shield.

Who's the greatest specialist of them all?

I think a decent number of people are concerned about the significant power hit enchanters take once Mind Blank becomes relatively common among NPCs. Granted it's a pretty high level spell but it will come into effect if the campaign lasts long enough. Even Protection from (Alignment) and Magic...

    Help with evil cleric NPC

Keeping with Loki's background (son of a giant I believe) you could consider making it a Frost Giant Cleric. I'd say that Cleric levels are nonassociated for the frost giant so you could have a decent number of cleric levels on top of the base frost giant. You could make an argument that a 10th...

Help with the design of a thespian, entertainer & acrobat.

If you want to avoid the overhead of a psionic character or don't use psionics in your game you might also contemplate something like Rogue/Swashbuckler. That way your skills and fighting style dovetail nicely, while it's not a powerful gestalt it provides a decent bit of umph to a base rogue...

    AD&D 2E Converting Magic Items from 2E

Indeed, if we are talking 3.0 then all bets are off as you could do some really wacky things back then. Hrmm Keen Mercurial Greatsword of Sharpness in the hands of weapon master with imp crit <grimace>.

How Do Metamagic Rods Work For Preparation Spellcasters?

This is the interpretation we've always used and is the most balanced. The only way that you could justify the FAQ ruling vis a vis sorcerors is to assume that sorcerors are less skilled with monkeying around with the intrinsic formula of magic and thus require more time to change the...

Help with the design of a thespian, entertainer & acrobat.

Would you take the class if you couldn't use it's primary ability (spellcasting) for 4 levels? Not to mention the fact that the silent spell would have to be used on every spell with a verbal component which ends up costing the beguiler a bunch of power.

    Options for arcane healing spells?

I try not to assume Polymorph too much as it's either been removed from a good number of campaigns or is heavily modified.

    Decrease their Will saves?

Poison use isn't an inherently evil act (or it would seem the poison spell and cloudkill would have evil descriptors) but it's definitely seen as "evil" in most cultures. At the least it's largely seen as unlawful. I'd say it's definitely going to be a major issue in a campaign with Paladins or...

Who's the greatest specialist of them all?

Transmuter especially if we are talking PHB by itself. No other school gives quite as much flexibility with the extra spell. There is pretty much one or two worthwhile spells in the school every level. I'm not sure you can honestly say that with every other school. When you use other books like...

    Options for arcane healing spells?

I think it would be reasonable to make a lower level variant of synostodweomer which would allow you to channel a spell into healing (likely d4 per spell level or d6 per 2 spell levels). Make it a 4th level spell and the Wizard has access to emergency healing.
