Help with the design of a thespian, entertainer & acrobat.

As the character is mute I think that would pretty much limit his ability to cast spells with Verbal components. Sure in theory he could get silent spell but without metagaming it seems pretty dubious ;) As for communication I assume that if the DM allows it one or more characters in addition...

    Decrease their Will saves?

Bestow Curse can be used to give -4 to saves as an effect You can also go about it in a variety of indirect methods by either attacking wisdom or removing wisdom or save boosting items. There are some poisons that directly attack wisdom (consequences being will saves are reduced) and touch of...

    A problem with Adventure Paths/Campaign Sagas/etc...

12 parts to an adventure path seems to work pretty well for Dungeon magazine as low-level adventures 1-6 lvl seem to be able to fit 2 levels per article whereas high level adventures require significantly higher word count per level (all those statblocks). However that format might not be...

    AD&D 2E Converting Magic Items from 2E

I think keen is pretty clearly intended to be the new Sword of Sharpness. However you could have it be a specific magic weapon (like a Holy Avenger) that has a fixed configuration. I'd be very reluctant to allow any ability to function in conjunction with imp crit or keen though.

What spells do you get tired of seeing wizard players take? Cliche's, etc.

Honestly I dislike some of the real potent spells that either undo entire genres of game play (commune and the ilk and thier effect on mystery plots) or spells that as written nuke many abilities of PCs and BBEG alike (Mindblank is a major culprit here). The save or die spells can be a bit...

    Orb of Vengeance

Well doing some forensics on the Orb of storms 1/day Control Weather Use activated should cost 36,400gp Continuous Endure Elements should be 2000gp Subtracting those costs from the base of 48,000gp you get the inference that 1/month storm of vengeance equivalent to 9,600 gp. Assuming that...

    Orb of Vengeance

If you look at the cost of a single use scroll of Storm of Vengeance the cost is 3,825 in essence what you are creating is a scroll of Storm of Vengeance that can be used once a week without ever going away. Thus it stands to reason that a different formula needs to be used for less 1/week and...

Did you use UA in your 1E games?

Used it extensively Used Comeliness and still wouldn't mind using it in 3.5e to explain physical beauty and attractiveness. Oddly enough the Cavalier and Barbarian were never really used by PCs as we were rigid in enforcing a code of conduct on the Cavalier and not letting Barbarians really...

    Demonomicon of Iggwilv

While another Best of Dragon that collects some of the Demonomicon would be nice it seems like another Dragon Archive covering issues from 251- 350 would also be highly useful. Of course a Dungeon Archive CD would be most appreciated as well ;)

    Do you run multiple PCs?

In 1e it was rare but not unheard of as we generally had decent sized groups. It became less common with 2e and virtually unheard of by 3e in our games.

    What happens to the scroll?

The ability of the scroll to function as a spell completion item is temporarily surpressed however the physical properties don't change. Thus I would venture to say that in the standard campaign the scroll is a mixture of magic bound in the act of reciting the scroll. There is a physical aspect...

    Contingency - Heal?

Meh, I guess technically that might work but I think I would likely limit the contingent spell to only working when actually cast by the same caster as the contingency spell. However if the flavor of your campaign would work with it I think you could even have rogues with UMD using contingency...

    Contingency - Heal?

Definitely not legit as the limited wish (7th level) is just simulating a lower level spell rather than actually becoming that spell. Contigency clerly limits the spell to 6th level. However it would be possible for a cleric to use Miracle to simulate the contingency and then cast the heal...

Forcecage + Dimensional lock = screwed?

Ahh I figured that you could in theory have the forcecage "floor" generate the tentacles but that would predicate that the cage be in place before the tentacles could be cast and then the force effect would block the spell. In order for the tentacles to work it seems the victim would almost...

Rules that never made sense to you?

I assume he's using a +0 LA medium monstrous humanoid as the base race and using alter self to become a War Troll and then supplementing via barkskin to get the natural armor bonus. A dromite couldn't do it because of the small base size. I suspect you could also do something via the elan and...

    Level Adjustment for Spontaneous Casting?

Are we talking regular spell list + domain spell as spontaneous caster? Sounds pretty hinky but it's hard to directly categorize the benefit as it continues to become more powerful as the cleric gains levels. At low levels 1-4 it's likely only worth a +1 LA but as the cleric improves it becomes...

Forcecage + Dimensional lock = screwed?

Acid Fog would work but it's got a pretty minimal damage curve for the type of targets you would be aiming at catching in this sort of scenario. I think Black tentacles would provide better benefit with a lower level spell. Exalted or Vile spells would be a good choice depending on alignment...

Forcecage + Dimensional lock = screwed?

Well Poison Immunity isn't exactly uncommon at those ECLs either. Many of the garden variety opponents (Demons, Devils, Undead) wouldn't be troubled by cloudkill. Of course at the levels we are talking about where PCs can use a timestop to implement such a sophisticated gambit one could also...

Forcecage + Dimensional lock = screwed?

Going over the rules it seems you are correct, technically speaking several delayed blast fireballs inside of the forcecage might also prove a decent strategy for a combo. Black Tentacles might be worthwhile as well to help prevent the effected party from using a disintegrate.

Forcecage + Dimensional lock = screwed?

I'd have to concur that setting up a contingency of "Cast Cloudkill on whatever I cast Forcecage on" is somewhat dubious. Further as the forcecage (windowless cell variant) blocks spells from being cast through the cage wouldn't it prevent the casting of cloudkill inside of the forcecage? Yes a...
