Me too. NPCs can have whatever wacky tricks I want them to have, as long as 1) there's a good reason they are able to do them, 2) provides an appropriate challenge for PCs, and 3) fun is had by all.

Sure. But you can also adjust the S/N slider relatively easily with any edition, if you wanted to, again, with just a few house rules and DMing style.

He's my favorite too. But about the OP, I agree with your post. Although 4e is my preferred system to run, I would play almost any system with a good group of players, and certainly any D&D system. I have fantastic memories from each of OD&D, 2e and 3e.
