D&D 4E Poke holes in my 4e econ house rule, please.

Thanks for the suggestions, JohnBiles. I may set up a skill challenge / city modifier system.

D&D 4E Poke holes in my 4e econ house rule, please.

The 20% constant sell value didn't sit right with me, so I came up with this potential house rule: At any given level, you have a 20% chance to sell any of your magic items, for 100% of its value. If you fail the check, you must wait 1 experience level before trying again. Residuum returns 40%...

How do you tab your PHB and other books?

I like the idea of tabs, but too often they snag on something and fall off, or in worst case, take a piece of the page with it. Especially with the heavy use RPG books get.

Are you going to limit PC alignments in your 4e game?

I generally prefer not to DM evil characters, simply because it's extra work to motivate them, and I don't want to do this extra work as a DM at this time.

Observations of a DM turned player

This seems like something the new MM could help a new DM with. This does not. My impression is that if he's good at this, it'd be independent of the system used. Can you explain how the new MM helped him do this?

    The Early Verdict (kinda long)

The review was fine, and I've not seen any bashing in this thread. "It's just my opinion" shouldn't be a blanket shield against someone poking holes in your logic, if you post said opinion on a discussion board.

    Age and Mortality

Level 30. Like everyone else. I don't think living much longer automatically suggests you will just get better at everything, proportional to how long you live. Most skills may naturally reach a plateau where no human or other creature with human-like capabilities can get better with it.

    Dewl barsturd swordz yo!

So what was the point of this post? To showcase your "irrational and unreasonable" reaction to a rule? That doesn't seem very constructive. What's the basis for discussion?

    D&D 4E No Roleplaying XP in 4e

As long as everyone had a good time at the table, everyone gets the same XP. What's the point of giving different people different XP anyway? Level disparities suck.

    Quickdraw

It's often good to know exactly what the rules say you can and cannot do, though, to have as a common starting ground to begin any necessary house-ruling and discussing. And I think that's what Hypersmurf provides to the best of his ability.

Use a feat to make a sword a flurry weapon?

There is feat that allows just such a thing with longswords in the Eberron Campaign setting. In my opinion, it would not be a terrible problem to allow a feat to do this with generally any selected melee weapon.

Jet Li no longer missing in aftermath of Asian tsunami tragedy

It would be remarkable if he were your brother, no? Various individuals matter more or less to people. Obviously Jet Li matters less than say, one's own sibling, but we still have "parasocial" interactions with certain celebrities and identify with them, making them stand out more in our minds...

D&D 3.x Rules intrinsically related to the 3ed round

A similar, slightly different view is Spycraft. Each round is divided into two actions. Essentially, you have two standard actions instead of a standard + move. Have a look there for how they address things like multiple attacks and such. Of course, it doesn't deal with spellcasting.

Adding Defense Bonus Without Increasing Combat Length

In D&D, combat dodging/evasion is represented, in part, by hit points. If you plan to represent combat dodging via defense bonus, then you need to remove that element from hit points. Make hit points based purely on physical toughness, not on combat skill.

    Is enlightened self-interest Good?

Research suggests that sometimes one does not even get "good feeling" after an altruistic act, in certain circumstances. In those cases, the only thing that could be driving altruism is an inability to deviate from that behavior at that particular moment.

    Is enlightened self-interest Good?

Surprise, this philosophy was around a lot longer than "Friends." Jeremy Bentham codified it in the 18th century as the core motive of utilitarianism. Others probably thought about it before him. Modern social psychology hasn't clearly resolved whether it's possible to have any action devoid of...

    Level Adjustment -1?

I think Aaron gives a good option. Another way to go, if you feel kobolds are too weak at low levels, is to just to have them start with extra XP, 500 to 1000 without bothering with all the +LA business.
