    D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight spells

Are Eldritch Knights limited to Abjuration and Evocation spells? That's what I interpreted the opening paragraph of the sub-class as saying. Are Arcane Tricksters limited to Enchantment and Illusion spells?

D&D 5E (2014) What Magic Item do you want to see most in the DMG?

Nothing with a + bonus to it, or a stat buff. I prefer magic items to have interesting properties. And I want an eversmoking bottle!

    D&D 5E (2014) Does RAW have a place in 5e?

Thank you for the explanation. Rules as written is often vague and incomplete, and intentions are often colored toward preferences. Having started role playing with AD&D, I'm no stranger to house rules that create rules where there are none, or just flat out change things that were written and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Glaive vs. Halberd - what's the difference?

Sir, you have a clarity with descriptions.

    D&D 5E (2014) Does RAW have a place in 5e?

I do speak English, but what do these mean?

D&D 5E (2014) Light Weapon Question, Grapple Question

Next questions, regarding the use of a longbow. The attack bonus is based on dexterity, or like other finesse weapons can the attack bonus be based on strength? Like composite longbows in past editions, does the full strength bonus get added to damage?

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

For me it is all about seeing a wider variety of race/class combinations, which will hopefully lead to some interesting characters. I do not imagine that the monsters will notice.

D&D 5E (2014) Light Weapon Question, Grapple Question

To put it in dice terms; light weapons do up to d6 damage, non-light weapons do at least d8 damage. That would require the dual wielding feat, which I will probably select at some point. As long as they can be used with only one hand each. Or perhaps that knight could use one lance while...

D&D 5E (2014) Light Weapon Question, Grapple Question

Most light weapons are finesse weapons, meaning the attack bonus works off dexterity. And if your a fighter who wears heavy armor, there is no dexterity bonus. Yeah there is a feat you can take to fix this, but it stinks until you do. Does anyone have a two weapon fighter, and what have they...

D&D 5E (2014) Light Weapon Question, Grapple Question

Rapiers (2 lbs) and scimitars (3 lbs) are finesse and light weapons. A longsword (3 lbs) is versatile, can it also be considered a light weapon when wielded with one hand? What about a battleaxe (4 lbs)? While using an attack action to grapple, can I only attack to do combat damage if I have a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monsters You Miss

The cave troll, a favorite for 3.5e polymorphing into.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

That is true, but it used to guarantee a successful night of sleep to regain spells. The level two spell (rope trick) is for a short rest (1 hour), the level three spell (leo's hut) is for a long rest (8 hours).

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

Why? He was talking about characters with lower than standard stats, even by the 5e book. As long as it is a recommendation and not a rule...

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

I love the concept, this is the epitome of a DM working with a player to create interesting characters. My gnoll ranger came about from the internet picture of the toasters chasing kittens, which morphed into monsters eating pets, which morphed into monsters eating elves. Mizro had many recipes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

Every game has its unique personality, and high stats do not make an interesting character. That said, you may want to eliminate or ease the prerequisites for multiclassing.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

It was nice in earlier editions, when Rope Trick lasted for eight hours. Only one hour is really lame.

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

Speaking for myself only, I don't believe I had ever picked race before class. I pick a concept (class), then race, the create a detailed background (even before 5e). In the game I am currently playing, we rolled for our stat scores (against my mild objection). I like to see all players start...

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

Exactly what I want to avoid, racial stereotypes picked for power gaming over role play. Most everyone does it to some extent, but I am trying to take away the need for one aspect of it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

Pardon the question, but which book is the half-gnoll in? I like the concept, I played a gnoll ranger in pathfinder who of course was always hungry (read the quote in my signature line).

    D&D 5E (2014) Stat buy-in points

That is correct. What I want to see for the player characters is more race/class diversity, such as a half orc wizard or a dwarf druid. I want the players to be the exceptions, and the NPCs to be the rule. Yeah, it will take some role playing and an interesting background. Instead of six +1s...
