A dozen levels in 6 months?

I use 1E training times and costs. That slows down things nicely. I also enforce the craft times on heavy armor, like full plate. I don't use long travel times much, though, because I don't care to map out a huge world :D I also like nasty winters. Ones in which smart people stay inside, and...

    Armor As Damage Reduction

Since I happen to love UA field and full plate, and I've got the book in front of me, I'll give the details on them, including normal plate mail for comparison. Armor AC Bulk Weight Move Cost Plate Mail 3 bulky 45# 6" 400 gp Field Plate 2 fairly 55# 6" 2,000 gp Full Plate 1 fairly 65# 6"...

    Dice roller ...

Hmm, see I don't want 12 fields, and clicking :( I just want to be able to type what I want. Unless that's what you were suggesting, but in that case I don't know how I could do that

    Dice roller ...

What I'd love to see is a dice roller that you could download, and simply type in what you wanted rolled. 2d4+1, 3d6, whatever. Oh, and also that could display the individual die rolls if you wanted, so you could roll 4d6 at once, and manually drop the lowest one. What can I say, I'm picky =p...

    Does age matter?

My friend and I were introduced to D&D (at the same time) by a guy who was 12 years older than us, and we were 11 and 10. Scott was wise to get us hooked early, so that'd we'd DM for him when we got older and lazy :p My dad didn't mind at all, he even thought it was a good thing. My friend and I...

Which of these sterotypical PCs have appeared the most in your campaigns?

The Gruff Dwarven Fighter: Yes. In fact, it was the only dwarf anyone out of my main circle of players has ever played. The Conan-wannabe Womanizing Barbarian: Yes, although he was a fighter, he was still the same thing. Played by the same player as above. The Brooding Loner: Oh yeah. Often...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Gary, I've got two questions about cavaliers and paladins in UA, and it's awful nice to be able to come to the author for the answers :) First, did cavaliers roll d12's for hit points after first level, or d10's? In the table where it summarizes what hit dice different classes have, it lists...

    Armor As Damage Reduction

The big problem is that characters with heavy armor (practically) can't be hurt by 'normal' foes. Town guard with a longsword and 13 Str? Hopeless. Rogue with rapier +2, 13 Str, and not getting sneak attack? Just as hopeless. Let alone small characters. Halflings just have to run from guys in...

    The Cavalier and the Illusionist

Aw, shucks :D 1. I have no idea. I bought the 3 core books when they came out, and the 3.5 books when they came out. I'll also be getting UA when it comes out this Friday. Other than that, I bought a mini that was some kind of wraith or invisible man with a sword. He looked really cool, and he...

    The Cavalier and the Illusionist

Oh yeah, assassin's need starting cash. 4d4 x 10 gp (100 gp) sounds good. About the cavalier... there's a couple problems with writing it up, though I would like to. For one, the class was overpowered then, so it'll be hard to cut it down now. Two, paladins were a sub-class of cavaliers, and...

How do you start/stop Kneeling and Sitting?

Custserv got back to me. Here's my email, followed by Darrin's reply.

    The Cavalier and the Illusionist

Oh, assassins also got their d6 all the way till Gramps, while thieve's started getting a crummy 2 HP/level at 11th. Another reason why I feel converted assassins should get a d8 for HD :D And assassins that are no longer evil keep all their class abilities, though their followers are likely to...

    The Cavalier and the Illusionist

Well, let's see what I can come up with... I've got the day off, I'm sore, and don't feel like moving from this chair :D Assassins I'll use the rogue/thief as a base, and compare from there. Disadvantages compared to Thieves Most of the assassin disadvantages aren't appropriate to 3.X...

    Running Larger Games

Funny, I was just going to make a thread about huge groups. My old regular group had 6, sometimes 7 people, plus the DM. I've DMed that same group. However, I'm going to be starting a new group in my new home, where none of the players know how to play D&D well. It's going to have 6 or 7 people...

Weapon-a-Week: Bec de Corbin, Earspoon & Lucern Hammer.

I dunno what the other folks said, but I'm curious: did they also think that the scythe and pick were overpowered? I suppose with magic, my stiletto could get out of hand, but I'm not good at thinking of that kind of stuff, nor do I care to :) I suppose you could change the above stiletto to...

Weapon-a-Week: Bec de Corbin, Earspoon & Lucern Hammer.

Tiny (or light, +2 to conceal checks) Exotic weapon, 1d4, 19/x4. Good for those coup de graces. EDIT: Can't be thrown, of course. I think that's nicely balanced with the dagger (two steps up in proficiency, for two steps up in crit multiplier).

    Technology

Barsoomcore's campaign site has good stuff on two guns. How you stat guns should depend on how prevalent you want them to be. If you want to eliminate other ranged attacks, just make them better. If you want bows and such to be an option (for PC's, where a more expensive cost doesn't really...

How do you start/stop Kneeling and Sitting?

I think I like the two move actions to get up with no AoO's mechanically. Unfortunately, I don't like the logic of standing from kneeling taking as much time as moving 30 feet :( Then again, it does take that long to draw a weapon... Yeah, I think I'll use that. Thanks all! :)

    Tavern Brawls are THE BOMB!

Bar fights are probably the most common combat encounters in my games, come to think of it. Opposed to the other standby's: ambushed by bandits, raiding dragon, undead armies, undead filled tombes, crazed wizards, evil cults, etc. And that all goes for when I DM or play. Even my fighter...

    What Are You Listening To?

Along the Way, off of Bad Religion's 80-85 CD was on the playlist when I hit "Reply", now it's Johnny Cash's Folsome Prison.
