    Handy Latin Phrases.

I believe it's the assassin's guild that has the motto "nil mortifi sine lucre". Disclaimer: Those who are quick to jump on us non Latin speakers, note that I know no Latin to speak of, and that is a quote.

How do you start/stop Kneeling and Sitting?

Grar, that makes my head hurt. One on the one side, I thankfully lack Trip Monkeys. On the other, that's no reason to ignore the situation. Any suggestions, Hyp, or anyone else?

    Cute Avatar Program

This seems like a good time to ask how I insert images... EDIT: Well, that's apparently how I attach images even though it wasn't in the preview...

If PCs are 1st level, why don't their 9th level patrons help?

I don't really understand why DM's have problems explaining this. Do you call the National Guard to apprehend a mugger? No, you call the police: the lowest "level" that's trained for the job. Do you call NASA for help with your model airplane? Do you call Hawking for help with your algebra homework?

    Complete Dungeon Index..it's Finished

Wow, that's pretty awesome. I noticed that some of the modules, er, adventures aren't rated... I assume that's because you haven't gotten feedback on them from anyone? Are you interested in getting feedback on those?

How do you start/stop Kneeling and Sitting?

For laughs, I sent custserv my very first email! jgsugden's pep talk in his sig finally got to me :D I'll be sure to post what they say, if anything. For now, I houseruled it to be kinda like drawing a weapon, since it's something that takes time, but shouldn't take a much as standing up from...

    Micro-sized Campaign Worlds

I've ran and played in 4 or 5 campaigns that took place entirely in the city of Lankhmar. Like other posters have said, it was nice because the players and the DM were able to get very familiar with the setting, and didn't feel overwhelmed by a huge world. When I DMed the Temple of Elemental...

How do you start/stop Kneeling and Sitting?

It has rules in the PHB for the effects of sitting and kneeling, but it doesn't say anything about how a character gets to that position, or gets out of that position, AFAICT. Any help? I went ahead and threw a quick ruling on it when it came up in game, but I'd like to know if there's any...

Balancing act - giving rogues d8 hit die

I previously had a similar idea for swashbucklers. Give them a d8, drop their skill points to 6/level, give them all martial weapons (at least swords), and make it so that flanking doesn't allow sneak attacks. Also throw in Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat at first level, and we're all set!

If PCs are 1st level, why don't their 9th level patrons help?

The 9th levels don't wipe the kobolds out for the same reason they don't mill their wheat, sweep the floors, forge their horse shoes, or any other task like that. It's specialization. The same reason why I pay someone to build my house, put together my truck, and grow my food. I've got my job...

    Help with fight setup

That force field in one of the new Star Wars movies did that. I forget which movie it was, but I'm sure someone remembers better. But a wall of force is pretty good at keeping people apart, and it might even stave off teleports and such, since the wizard likely wouldn't want to be stuck alone on...

    yet another language thread

I'm pretty sure that the 1E DMG has a rule for how long it takes to learn a language by being immersed in it, and probably some other rules on learning languages, too, but I can't remember. It took either 20 or 24 months, minus your Intelligence score. Here's my less than extensive houserules...

Law Enforcement psych evals include "Have you played D&D"?

I'm a boarding team memeber in the Coast Guard, which means I'm a federal law enforcement officier. They never asked me anything about it, but then again, they didn't do any kind of psych test past the one they did when I enlisted. But that didn't have anything about D&D or otherwise...

    Alternatives to bows

How do you figure? Under thrown weapons on page 113 (3.5), it says that throwing a two-handed weapon is a full-round action, but that's burried in a paragraph about throwing weapons that aren't designed to be thrown. Also in that paragraph, it says "Regardless of the type of weapon, such an...

    Knowlege (Dungeoneering) replacement?

Why don't you want to use Knowledge: Dungeoneering? I'm just playing Devil's advocate :p I don't like the skill, or at least the name of it, because characters IMC rarely step foot inside 'dungeons' (underground complexes). And abberations don't have that much of a focus on being in dungeons...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules"

I'm not gonna go through your post in tons of detail, mostly because I'm lazy, and I also spend enough time on my own house rules :) I really like your ideas, because I agree that the sorc should be to the wizard as a druid is to the cleric. My only suggestion is that with all those changes...

    Class Imbalance?

I voted "other". I have to say, I don't like sorcerers. They just aren't different enough from wizards, IMO. No real niche IMC. My players never play one, and I think it could have to do with us growing up on M-U's, and that's it. But I can't bear to scrap them, because I like them as NPC's...

    Staff Combat

I did a Google image search for both Schwertwringeln and Ringneck. Schwertwringeln didn't turn up anything, and Ringneck turned up a book of guys beating each other up with big swords with a ton of pictures. I looked at them all, and there some pictures of one guy on the ground, but that was...

    Staff Combat

What about it? When you thrust with it, you deal 1d6 bludgeonig damage, crit on a 20, and deal x2 damage if you crit. Like how a sword works. I don't mean to be a smart ass, but what do you think the difference should be for thrusting?

    Whither thou, Gamble skill?

I always thought it'd be nice to see a decent mechanic for gambling, but I'm not sure if I like the idea of it being a skill. Certain forms of gambling does involve skill, but there's only so much one can know about it. I dunno, I could be trying to apply too much Real World logic. /slight...
