    Staff Combat

Dogbrain, I also meant to ask you using a greatsword to grapple... how on earth does that work? I'm no history buff, but I just can't see that. Please enlighten me :)

Help! What was the holy symbol in Ravenloft?

I'm updating some old PC's that I've DMed, mostly to kill time while ice has me stuck at home. I was working on one in particular, and I remembered that the character had the holy symbol/icon thing from Ravenloft (I6, I think. Been a while.) Unfortunately, I forgot what it does. I wanna say cure...

    Staff Combat

Because greatswords do 2d6, have a crit of 19/x2. And staffs do 1d6, and have a crit of x2. IOW, staff's suck, but they should be cool. Not as powerful as a good axe or sword (there's a reason why soldiers use those, not staffs, after all. Including shaolin monks, and all that oriental hoopla...

    Crazy/cool names of real-world places

When I lived in Plano, TX, the street the next block over was Lonesome Trail, and I thought that was cool as hell. Damn, I had another one, but I forgot. Well, lots cities in San Diego (another place I used to live) have funny names, though not cool or D&D-esk. La Mesa (The Table), El Cajon...

    Crazy/cool names of real-world places

Cape Disappointment, WA, is where the US Coast Guard has its surf school (for driving small boats on the surf. It's so named because of the crazy waters there and how it's know for "disappointing" women, cuz those waters turn them into widows.

    Helmets and Armor Fortification

Ah, thanks for the link. Too bad the poster didn't go into much detail or refinement :( How do you think mine compares to his, with the adjustments you made? I think the ASF against verbal spells is a good idea, BTW, and I'll work that in in a few days. Sleep calls...

    Crazy/cool names of real-world places

I can't believe that nobody's mentioned Death Valley. Also, the town outside it The Gateway to Death Valley, which I think is even cooler. Central and Northern California have all kinds of towns with cool names. The Devil's Stones (a sort of mini-Stone Henge) is one.

    Helmets and Armor Fortification

Here's a more final version, at least of helmets. Helmets Headgear is a part of a combatants basic protection that protects him against deadly blows. However, not all characters will want to wear a helm because they can impede hearing, vision, and don’t make for a friendly face. A helmet...

    Helmets and Armor Fortification

I've been prowling around here for a good time, but I must have missed the threads on it. Links? I'd like to see how other folks have done it. EDIT: Er, which has been brought up many times? Helms vs. crits, or fortification w/o the d100?

    Helmets and Armor Fortification

I think helmets should be more important (read: makes SOME difference) in combat. I was thinking that they could be incorporated into the game as good ol' mundane armor. Say, a couple different degrees of helmets, like a skull cap, chain coif, great helm, etc. A helmet wouldn't add AC, but it...

    Dragon hide for SALE!

Wow, I'm surprised they included that little blurb in the Draconomicon... since dragon hide was cooler in previous editions, and come on, it's a cool idea. Just seems like WotC woulda put more thought into it. *shrug* Well, Nifft, consider your stuff stolen, once again. I'm still using a...

    Dragon hide for SALE!

Ah, thank you, Nifft. With that, and if someone who had the Draconomicon could speak up, I'll be all set. See, in a way, my house rules end up being a bit of a democracy. If at least a couple gamers outside of my group have similar ideas, and I make something based on those ideas, with my own...

What do you do with Favored Classes?

So a human starts with 3 feats?

    Dragon hide for SALE!

Links? Nifft, I tend to love your house rules, so I'd love to hear the details of this :D It's quite understandable, as in, I understand what they're saying, AFAICT. However, I think that it's unreasonable. You underlined the types of armor it can produce, but what special value does that...

    Dragon hide for SALE!

For one edition only, we're selling dragon hide at the low, low, price of twice what you would normally pay for armor*! What's so special about this armor you ask? Why, it has the incredible feature of looking neat! Oh, and druids can wear it (with a feat). *Dragon hide acquired seperately. You...

    Purchasing feats?

Oh yeah, I think it's a neat concept. I thought up a simple system for training for feats, but it's not done. It's burried in about the middle of this thread. Other good ideas in there, too.

The "I'm going to get hit no matter what my AC is" philosphy

Oh yeah, I've definitely played a character by the "who cares what my AC is, I'm gonna get hit anyway" philosophy. However, it's just my character. He's the main fighter, and big stuff attacks him. Big stuff with insane attack bonuses. I honestly got hit so often that, without a mopey attitude...

What do you do with Favored Classes?

I don't use multiclassing penalties IMC (mostly because I have the miracle of non-powergaming players), but I still like the idea of certain races having a tendency towards certain classes. I know people on these boards have discussed the workings of specific alternitives, but I'd like a nice...

    Staff Combat

I mean that to be that anyone who is proficient in all martial weapons can use it in that way. And monks, too, of course :D A character that couldn't use all martial weapons could spend a feat on Martial Weapon Proficiency, just like characters can get EWP for the bastard sword. Personally...
