I still laugh when someone talks about an unidentified wand being a +3 backscratcher or a fighter jumping into the arms of a wizard at the sight of a rust monster. :) As long as the humor is kept to sidebars/comics or is a part of flavor text that's relevant, it's a good thing.

My players and I prefer a more mundane campaign, and often pick things like hounds, (for tracking) eagles, or hawks (for scouting). We also tend to prefer lower-level games, generally stopping before 10th level, so the problem with scaling isn't much of an issue for us.

My 1E DM always pronounced it dwa-mer (rhymes with "bomber"). Not that I'm saying that's the correct pronounciation, but it worked for us! :D

You could throw three shuriken with one attack roll in 3.0, but not 3.5. I briefly considered going back to that, but I don't like it because of the whole book of rules it entails, and the idea is too Hollywood-ninja-mammal for my tastes.
