Move to Rules! - How much time passes during round?

Ok, stay with me. I know a round is 6 seconds. I know a minute is 10 rounds. But, how much time does an actual round take up? Let me try an example to explain myself. Norman goes on 16 Kyus goes on 12 Goblins go on 9 Norman takes his actions. Kyus takes his actions. The goblins take their...

    Coal and Math

Thanks for the confirmation, Coredump :) Yeah, I figured I could just cut a regular hexagon into 12 right triangles, and figure the area that way, but I saw this as an opportunity to learn something new. And it's much easier to beg ;)

A bump to make sure I got everything right with the math :)

    Poison! (not the band)

"uninteresting" lol. Yeah, crunch > fluff and all that. Well, I'll at least have it known that I was reading over making potions in the 1E DMG this morning over coffee. Nothing says interesting like harvesting pumpkin seeds under the light of a full moon and brewing them with stuff like the eye...

    Poison! (not the band)

I certainly agree. But before I make a bunch of "standard" poisons like you listed, I want to be sure that my system is sound. Then I can just pump out some good ol' black lotus extract and dragon bile ad nauseum.

    Coal and Math

    Alright, side^2 * 2.6. I can do that :) So a hexagon with an area of 25 mi^2 has a side ~ 3.1 miles long? 3.1^2 *2.6 = A 9.61 * 2.6 = A 24.98 = A And that's close enough to 25 for me. 3 miles, instead of 3.1, is close enough, too. Everything look good with that? Thanks again for the help...

    Faerie Encounters

I know what you mean about fey (throughout the editions) being rather flavorless, or at least not the flavor I think of when I think about European fairy tales. And I'm sure there'll be lots of interest in your fey stuff ;) ElectricDragon, I'd certainly like to see the work you've done! Send...

    Coal and Math

@Aluvial - Ok, imagine a jet plane zooming right over your head. That's what all that math was to me  Thanks for all the info, but all I know about stuff like "tan" is that it's one of the buttons on my calculator I never touched for fear that it would bake me or somethng :) @die...

    Brainstorming a Mix of Editions

Installment III of Real Ultimate D&D Wow, I’m on a roll. I think I actually work better like this, publicly. Kind of how the best way to learn is to teach ^_^ So, we’ve got the skeletons of the classes. Now lets work on the meat of them. I’ll start with… Knights! Knight Warrior Ranger...

    Appearence and Player Shallowness

Quite true. The DM I stole it from gave elves some bonus, and dwarves a penalty (maybe +2/-2, I don't remember. I just don't use elves :D

    Coal and Math

For the hexagon, unless I'm reading CRG's wrong, both those are equations give pretty different results. His is side^2 * 3 * 2.5 = area. Yours is side^2 * 2.6 = area. So am I reading an extra * 3 in CRG's, or am I missing a * 3 in yours? Thanks for that info on Coal, Tilla. I was...

    Coal and Math

As for what I meant, I meant the regular hexagon you described. 6 sides of equal length and equal angles. So let me see if my rusty algebra pulls through, using a hexagon with a side 5 miles long. I'll use 2.5 instead of 2.598 since this doesn't need to be completely exact, just close enough...

    Coal and Math

I'm doing some mapping stuff for my campaign, and I have two seperate questions that I figure some kind souls here could help me with :D 1. What was coal used for before steam power? Was it heavily mined? 2. How can one calculate the area of a hexigon?

    Brainstorming a Mix of Editions

First, get Use Rope out of Tinker with Shiz. Without an opposed skill (Escape Artist), tied up people are screwed. So we can just remove Use Rope since we removed Escape Artist. Second, that paragraph I mentioned that was lost. Here’s the deal: Skill acquisition can be simplified as well as...

    Poison! (not the band)

You've got a point about the cheapness. Thankfully, that's one of the easier things to fix (just pick higher numbers to multiply by). Same goes for the Craft DCs...only add, say, 15, instead of 20. I especially like how you incorporated the difficulty with the logic of who'd work for peanuts at...

    Brainstorming a Mix of Editions

I don't mean to bash my first comment :heh: but I don't really want to give all the skills to everyone... I think while that would speed up character creation, it would also blur the line between characters too much, especially at lower levels. It would also lead to situations of "I can't pick...

    Appearence and Player Shallowness

The problem of using an average of existing ability scores is that having a high Comliness becomes damn near impossible. Either rolling it seperately (point buy or not), or using some other method would be best, assuming that Com had little to no game effect. IMC, we use Comliness (with no...
