I looked in the PHB and DMG indecies, but I couldn't find a general rundown on force effects. Under damaging objects in the PHB, it doesn't mention force effecs. I don't see why a force effect couldn't harm inanimate objects. True, magic missiledoesn't, but a ring of the ram does.

I see stakes and decapitation as being to vamps as fire and regeneration are to trolls. I don't suggest making any auto-kill abilities with stakes or decapitation in melee, because a stake through the heart or getting your head lopped off is equally fatal to humans, but there's no rule for that...
