Arms & Equipment guide : Price for mercenaries

Table 4-4 has an entry for cost. This is the cost of purchasing the gear the merc is using (armor, shield, weapons...). While I have not checked the arithmetic for all the entries, it looks about right. The equipment cost is used to figure the level of the troops. The side bar on pg 68...

EN World City Project: NPC Contest #2... Final Round Ingredients!!!

Oh, bother. It seems that life is interfering with important stuff like gaming just at the moment. I haven't even had time to get on here to say that I don't have time! Depending on when the next contest is, I am still interested, but it will be after Easter before I can do anything about it.

Quick Q re: OA monk w/ quarterstaff

Unfortunately, the upgrade for monks in OA is not as clear as it could have been. This has lead to an apparent ambiguity in the rules. The Players Handbook clearly states that flurry of blows can be used while armed with a monk special weapon. OA clearly states that the list of monk special...

How do you break a bowstring in combat?

Given how easy it is to break a bowstring in real life, I would argue that replacing a damaged string has no effect on enhancements on the bow. Things like rain or even fog can render a bowstring useless; they stretch. Over time, they will fray and need to be replaced. (That is why I didn't...

    Firearms and ranges

For those reading this who are not gun nuts, here is a useful definition: A firearm's effective range is the distance it can be fired AT the target as opposed to ABOVE the target. Within effective range, gravity has not yet deflected the trajectory of the bullet sufficiently to cause it to...

Retention of Paladin and Monk multiclass restrictions in 3.5ed

I am rather surprised at this. I do not remember anyone really coming out in favor of this rule, even when I have seen people attacking it on message boards. Oh, wait! I know! It must have been the WotC proofreaders that tallied the votes! :D

    Spiked chain questions/prestige classes?

Unless you've got a dex that's MUCH higher than your str, don't bother with weapon finesse. You will be better off bumping str for the damage, once you've got the dex for the Spring Attack chain of feats. Even though Whirlwind is limited to opponents within a 5 foot range, it is still...

Ghaele and other monsters that cast spells as clerics

All dragons cast arcane spells as sorcerers therefore require no preperation for any of their spells. Even those that are normaly clerical spells or clerical domain spells. Of course, sorcerers have a limited number of spells known, a limit that dragons are forced to share. The gold dragon...

    Asking for Martial Arts styles/feats....

AEG's Swashbuckling Adventures has several 3 or 5 level prestige classes for various fighting styles. Consider using them for inspiration for martial arts style PrC's. Beware however, turning a martial arts style into a PrC screws the monk.

Ghaele and other monsters that cast spells as clerics

To pull two examples, both the ghaele and the gold dragon get to cast clerical spells, and both are listed as getting to use spells from certain domains as clerical spells. No mention is made of gaining the domain special abilities, only of treating them as extensions of the clerical spell...

D&D 3.x [3.5e] A fix for free weapons from multiclassing?

There is one point that I think has been overlooked. Why are you all assuming that the wizard spent all 10 years learning to cast those 3 spells? Maybe his teacher lived in an area where all males over 15 had to spend every other weekend drilling with the militia. Once our young first level...

I need a Special Forces prestige class, and I need it now

I'm not familiar with G. I. Joe or Spycraft, so I can't comment on how well they would work together. Somalia D20 has been out for a couple of weeks. I bought it just for the military advanced classes, the social feats and some of the equipment. I am setting up to run a Stargate SG-1 game...

I need a Special Forces prestige class, and I need it now

Somalia D20 Modern is a good place to look. It has a Special Ops Training class as well as a Military Officer class. It also has a Sniper class, but I'm not too sure about allowing a ranged coup de grace... unless you plan to have several NPC's with the party, that ability gets old real fast...

    Autofire & Thrown Explosives

On another thread dealing with autofire, a person trained by the Army to use an M-60 machine gun was told that to actually hit a target was an unexpected bonus. If you want the skill of the user to affect the chance to hit, use single shot.

    [Dragon] Lord, the cheese...

I should have started reading this earlier. Way to much time just to reach this point. It was mentioned earlier that Americans have bad attitudes about sex. This is far too true, and in ways that are very harmful to Americans. If half naked women on the covers of Dragon can help, that is a...

    Role playing vs. skill checks

Aha! The DM needs an attitude adjustment. I recommend a 7/8 inch cresent wrench, applied frequently to the top of his head until the idea is properly imbedded. What your DM is doing is only appropriate for a very few, very important NPC's. Most NPC's actually should have some degree of...
