I've read the epic book and played a little bit, but not a spell caster. I saw no problem with the RAW for some parts, other parts needed "adjustment". I feel that an epic charcter should be able to gain some form of class abilities, perhaps creating groups of ability trees... every 5 levels...

You all missed the point. The woman in that picture was armed with a huge sword. Swords are dangerous weapons. The guard was only doing his duty to protect the passengers from sword wielding women.

Even advancing the technology up to when I was in the Navy, a fighter was fairly useless agains a ship... unless it was armed with an anti-ship missile. An air to air missile might hit the ship, and the ship might notice (eventually). Even an A - 10 Warthog would be hard pressed to actually do...
