Where did my options go? - The New Paradigm

Well, I'd just choose archery as a path, keep my dex and str high, multiclass as a fighter and take a fighter paragon path :) Remember, you end up with 4 encounter powers and 4 daily powers. Thus, you'll only need 2 encounter attack powers and 2 daily attack powers from your ranger list, the...

Where did my options go? - The New Paradigm

"Choose either one handed or two handed weapons. When using a weapon of your chosen style, you gain +1 to attack rolls". Choose 1 handed weapons, and if you're using a 1 handed weapon, you gain the bonus even if you're fighting with two weapons. Look at the weapon table: both longsword and...

Jonathan Tweet advices: let the players peek behind the screen

Considering that we still have a DMG and that it seems in 4e there are far more things that rely on DM adjudication than in 3e (NPC stats, some skill checks, no more random loot tables), I don't really think this is the case. On topic, I think it's a good advice, at least for a few sessions. I...

Jonathan Tweet advices: let the players peek behind the screen

Wow. This is the most overpowered tanking utility I've ever seen :P

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

Can't the Tarrasque just jump? Maybe screaming "Tarrasque smash!" :D

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

I'd rather think that they don't "win" until they actually retire their characters, and that the game should not cease to be challenging just because you've hit level 30. Oh well, it's just a matter of taste, I guess. Fair enough :)

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

... a lvl 33 solo is supposed to be a challenge for a 33th level party. How is killing a monster in 1-2 rounds a challenge? Sure, you can say "that's not as broken as I expected", but the PCs are clearly not supposed to kill him on the spot. If they were, Blade Cascade wouldn't be the clear...

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

The charopt weren't given the full rules, just a few criticals area so that they could review the game, IIRC. Anyway, the numbers are on the 4e charopt board; you can check the maths if you wish :)

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

Yes, I'm not saying that feats are the only source of static damage: your ability scores, your paragon path's features ( on the charopt boards they use the pitfighter paragon path, that adds your wisdom modifier to damage, and what, half your level to your damage rolls when you spend an action...

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

Well, 40d10s are, on average, 220 damage. With Blade Cascade we're oneshotting Orcus, who is said to have more than 1000 HP ( I don't know exactly how many, I don't have the books yet). So, if we're dealing 1000 damage with Blade Cascade, 78% of that damage comes from those little +1s (feats...

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

The problem I'm seeing with Blade Cascade is not the 40[W] per se, it's the modifiers that come with each attack. Every +1 damage you gain increases your total damage by 40. However, those +1s are relatively easy to get, since the game was supposed to have done away with multipliers ( due to...

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

Really, guys. Dealing a lot of damage is one thing. Killing solo monsters outright does not qualify as just "dealing a ton of damage", it qualifies as "one shotting". I'm fine with a high level ranger dealing a crapton of damage, as long as his damage output is somewhat comparable to what...

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

I don't know what the stats for Orcus are, ATM...I was shooting for 1000 damage/round. If you wish and you have the books handy, and can provide some hard numbers ( Orcus's HP and AC, Special defenses and so on, as well as other 15th level powers, paragon paths and feats that deal additional...

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

Uhm...it should be "avalanche of blades". However, that maneuver imposed an increasing penalty on the character's attack rolls (-4/attack) ;).

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

    He's only missing on a 1, a 2 is a hit ;) I'll assume he deals what? 1d8 damage+4(stength) +4(magic weapon)+4(kensei PP) /hit per hand, is this fair? ( I don't have the books yet >.< ) If he hits 30 times, that's 60d8+360. 60d8 averages to 270 damage. That's 610 damage right there, and I don't...

D&D 4E 4e Ranger: New God of Damage? Armor Splinter + Blade Cascade + High Wisdom Ranger

Yes, but it's a solo monster. A lvl 33 solo monster. The party is supposed to burn AP and dailies to kill solo monsters, IMO... Well, from what I've seen, there's a good number of options that would bring the roll down to 2+. I believe the warlord character in KotS has a feat that gives his...

    Dragons are kinda boring...

Well, IIRC the fighter's OA stop movement. Can a fighter's OA stop a monster with a flight speed, though?

    Archery vs. TWF

Ditto...Someone posted the power somewhere ( CharOpt? ). You must be dualwielding. You keep attacking alternating main and off hand until you miss. That's...sick ( and maybe it needs an errata, since it seems it can end an encounter with any solo monster on its own ).

    So, wizards fight like fighters?

Well, the high level powers from the fighter's list we've seen deal x[W] damage, IIRC...that means a high level wizard with a decent strength score can deal the damage a fighter dealt at 1st level at best.
