Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

Dude, that's a little harsh, and, frankly, off the mark in this case. The author of the article is Herid Fel, the author of the Swordmage's handbook on the CO boards. I don't know if he just screwed up or WotC edited/nerfed the feats, but the author is certainly knowledgeable in terms of what...

D&D 5E (2014) cancelled 5e announcement at Gencon??? Anyone know anything about this?

Well, considering that 99% of the fighter's powers boild down to "swinging his sword really well" I'm not sure I can see your point, TBH...

    New Armor Types

Meh, not impressed. Superior armors cost a feat, grant situational or negligible bonuses and add more fiddly bits to track. Maybe there'll be more feat support for them in the book, but from what I've seen, they don't look like something that would improve my game.

In Defense of the Theory of Dissociated Mechanics

In D&D, you don't face average joes, usually, though. If your fight involves an "average joe", he's probably a minion, which kind of makes the point moot. Wait. Most boxers and MMA fighters don't use a ton of different moves because nonlethal fighting puts quite a bit of constraints on what...

In Defense of the Theory of Dissociated Mechanics

That's precisely the point, though. During a match, you're not just throwing punches: you're formulating a strategy, looking for an opening and throwing a jab when it's appropriate. Why aren't you just punching the other dude in the face over and over, since that first jab landed so easily...

    Need help with Monk

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't use HBO with a full discipline power anyway, since HBO requires the "Weapon" keyword, and monk powers are Implement powers.

Proposed Monk Rules Preview (not house rules)

Some random thoughts: IMHO, the at-will is a bit too good. Immobilize at will, and do it on an OA to boot? This makes the Iron Soul monk stickier than the fighter; I'd change it to something else, frankly... maybe just slow the target? Furthermore, for the most part you've increased the unarmed...

    Cleric (Templar) is Up

I suppose they're just trying to cut back the number of powers. There are like 8000 powers out there... finding a name for yet another "spend an healing surge" power must be getting difficult, and this way when they want to create a new leader class they can just slap "healing word" in there...

    D&D has been cancelled (speculation).

Uhm, aside from the fact that it's more a rumor than a leak, IIRC the rumor was about the property of WotC (including M:tG) reverting back to Adkinson if Hasbro ever gutted D&D. But, again... it's just a rumor, to the best of my knowlegde.

D&D 4E [4E Players, mainly] Ever thought of defecting to Pathfinder?

Why would I? 4e is still there even if WotC stops producing it. I've got my offline CB, my dead tree books and my group, why would I switch to something else? Even if I disliked some of WotC's business decisions, lately ( so much that I stopped being a regular DDI subscriber ), it's no reason...

    D&D 4E [Essentials] Heroes of the... ?

I'd love to see a slightly more complex melee martial class ( similar to the hunter, with both MBA augments and stances/aspects... I like the idea behind the essential martial builds but dislike the execution, while I like the hunter a lot, mechanically, but don't really care for the concept...

    Two-weapon warrior archetype: Twin Blades

Damn, you're right. I totally missed the reference to a weapon :) I don't know, I don't really think it works this way, considering that the ability states "...he uses the normal light weapon penalties", and that the normal penalty for fighting with a light weapon in your off-hand is -2. I...

    Two-weapon warrior archetype: Twin Blades

Well, DR 5/- is a decent perk at most at level 20... it's not that good. Armor Training is nice, though, but, in the end, you're going to have the same AC against melee attacks with the defensive bonus. So who cares if it comes from Armor Training or Defensive Flurry? You can wear heavy armor...

    Two-weapon warrior archetype: Twin Blades

Uhm, going by the pfsrd ( I don't have the APG, and I'm not really into pathfinder, so correct me if I'm wrong ), the TWF archetype gains a class ability named deadly defense at level 19. Now, there's a reason Karmic Strike and Robilar's Gambit were in each and every optimized fighter build in...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Eh, I don't know. Frankly, I don't care. But, for example, some of the players I know are wannabe fantasy writers. I don't think they'd like the fact that a company might decide to take their character's name and use it as a minor pc in a novel, especially if they wanted to use it for a short...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Eh, I don't think so, especially considering that PaoloM esplicitly stated that an offline CB is out of the question.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Maybe I value my time more than my money, when it comes to gaming. Or at least, I did before the CB went online only. There's a reason if people pay for stuff like hero lab and the CB: they don't want to spend time and energy creating a program themselves when they can just pay someone else to...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

I guess it's because, if I go through the effort of creating an excel spreadsheet, what's the point of paying for the CB then? I can just use the spreadsheet and be done with it. I see a lot of people saying that offline access is not a big deal. Aside from the fact that for some people it is...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Nah, I don't think it's a PR failure. PaoloM has been answering quite a bit of questions since the announcement, yesterday. There's only so much you can do. Frankly, the "new" CB is a net loss for me, and no amount of PR or marketing is going to change that: we used the old CB a lot while...

Academic curiousity Re Melee training and essentials

This is not fair in any way, it's just something that would make the tanks pretty much unhittable at higher levels, and would require errata for pretty much all the monsters printed until now. In terms of balance, there's a whole lot of difference between a few points of damage here and there...
