How many people have you played D&D with?

I once played in a single ENWorld meet-up game at one of the UK GenCons at Olympia that had over 30 players in it. S'mon was the DM. When I take into consideration all the con games I've played, it's probably around 80 so I put myself in the 61 - 80 band. But it could well be more.

    Moo! Err... Bovines in D&D

Laman Stahros' version is indeed the original but it often gets bowdlerised for kids. The versions you heard were most likely the family ones.

What Gaming Stuff Are You Getting/Giving For Christmas?

Good call! I have it plus a few expansions/boosters. I'm getting myself an extra basic box mostly for the terrain tiles. It should arrive in the next few days. That's my seasonal gaming gift to myself. :o I'm also getting some small gifts for some fellow EN Worlders but I'm not...

BBC to make Merlin TV series

You haven't missed much IMO. Torchwood, on the other hand, is pretty good - maybe even better than Who. FWIW, I agree. ;)

any more examples of art made again?

Yes, there are lots of examples of re-done art, or art that was directly inspired by earlier art. Unfortunately, I don't have my books handy to look them up but IIRC there are three versions of the fighter in a water trap being attacked by a skeleton: one each in 1E and 2E with a male fighter...

    Mind-altering books you would recommend?

It's been said already several times but I'll add another vote for 1984. I'd also recommend All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Remarque and One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch by Alexander Solzhenitsyn for their portrayal of courage in the face of inhumanity. You might want to check...

The Wii May Be the Bane of Roleplaying

Not quite. Earlier this year, I saw a holographic TV developed by IBM and some French partners. It showed moving, full colour holographic images. No special glasses or other equipment required. Quite impressive! Now if you combined that with the wii interface, you might be simulating...

    Not exactly the smartest move...

There was a story in the papers in the UK just a couple of days ago about a guy who thought he'd won £1 million ($2 million) on the lottery. He danced on his desk and told his boss where to shove his job. Then the guy called the lottery phone number to find out how to collect his winnings. And...

    Dice spinning

Are you thin? It's been shown that people who fidget a lot, especially those who do larger motions such as bouncing or crossing & uncrossing legs, tend to be thinner because they burn more calories. I actually tried to develop the habit but it didn't work; I'm sedentary by nature. Sorry for the...

    d5 uses?

When Lou Zocchi came out with his True d5 a few years ago, there was a competition in Dragon in which you had to devise lists of 5 things that might be selected at random. I don't think Dragon printed the winning entries. I really ought to know though because I was one of the winners. :p IIRC...

    What's up with Scottish Dwarves?!?

While it's certainly true that Warhammer dwarves were very teutonic/nordic, it can't be said that the idea of a Scottish dwarf was unknown to the designers at Games Workshop. IIRC one of the minis in the Dwarf Lords of Legend set that came out in the mid-'80s was called Angus and looked...

Have you given your kids fantasy names?

Not fantasy but.... The friend who introduced me to RPGs way back when has the initials PLC (which in the UK where we lived also stands for Public Limited Company, i.e. a company that's publically listed and therefore traded on a stock exchange). His wife has the initials KFC. They have three...

Have you given your kids fantasy names?

I don't have any kids but if I did, they'd have my surname which is Simkin. Simkin is also the name of a character in Weis & Hickman's Darksword novels (see my sig). So in terms of fantasy names, they'd be set. :)
