WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I wonder how many people are buying the new core but not using them. I have 2 copies of each but they will remain unused on the shelf other than collectible or if I play, not DM, in a 5.5 group. I will not run 5.5.

The Avatar books are still in shrink wrap. I’d play but doubt I’d DM it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which 5e Should I Propose to My Group? [Updated]

2014 or LevelUp. For monsters, Kobold’s Tomes or Flee ramp things up. Kobold’s Lair books that pair with the Tome’s are also great to drop in short sessions around their monsters.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Influencers have changed the dynamic. A good chunk of players used to get their gaming news from their DM or social group or would actively look online if it mattered enough. You now have a huge YouTube market that informs people with low time cost. It is much easier to sub to Dungeon Dudes...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Well, Hasbro seems to want to get out of the toy business and just license properties and handle tech. This may apply to D&D creation too. Hasbro, in general, is also awful with marketing. Look at the Transformers One movie that they partially funded. Great movies, terrible marketing. The...

This. I have entire shelves of things I think are cool that I may not be able to run before I die.

The average player does not matter. It matters if they cannot find a D&D 5e/5.5 game because the DMs have moved away.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I agree with the article. If anything, 5.5's affect on me was to look back to Cypher, Saga Edition, 2e or 3.0 (not 3.5). The luster of 5e has worn off. I still like 5.0 but now I know that 5.5 is moving away from me. The only thing keeping me with 5.0 is DDB and the legacy content. 5.5 is...

Effects of tariffs on game sales (e.g. US/Canada shipments) (No Politics!)

Most likely they do not consider it because it is more expensive to print in the US or they just are not aware of the printers who specialize in different fields. The US has a lot of print capacity but certain shops specialize in the type of content they produce.

They publish thousands of books and journals per month. They could handle more capacity, in general, and they make their own paper sourced from Wyoming and Montana.

What changes did they make? I did not see anything about Drivethru changes.

I am not too worried in the short term although raw materials costs are going to be awful for my print suppliers if this goes before 3 months. The just in time inventory models are what may break us first. No one carries sufficient supply anymore.

Not true. There are several large printers in the US that do excellent color prints. A large number of medical journals are published in the US with color pictures, for example. I work with a few large volume US-based printers.

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

DDB first design. This is idiotic because a new DM would not know all the devil types etc.

D&D Adds Two New Books to 2025 Slate, Including New Eberron Book

Specifically calling them out to make a point that they are distinct from half-elves seems to be rubbing salt in the wound.

D&D Adds Two New Books to 2025 Slate, Including New Eberron Book

They really hate half-elves considering how popular they have always been with players.

The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

This was a thread discussing 4e and its effect. I never said you are wrong to like it. I discussed my own thoughts on it. You have been fairly angry and bitter and I understand why, but saying that I hated the edition in no way invalidates your opinion. You were arguing with the article at...

The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

The point of speaking out is to be heard. The last thing a franchise needs is apathy. I think anyone who uses the if you do not like it, stop talking and go away is wrong.
